Daily Mirror saying we're going to make a record bid for Steven Fletcher.

    Does seem possible, fingers crossed.

Would be a good signing, but I carnt see Sunderland wanting to sell their best striker while there in a relegation battle it's almost asking to be relegated.
    What's his contract situation?

Was banging them in awhile back but has dried up now and Sunland want rid. Sounds familiar.

We need a new striker in, well 2 at least. Gedo maybe off by the look of it. Fryatt will go in the window I reckon and Prozzy too. Mcleans gone.

We need a forward with pace as well as a fletcher type hold up man.

Wiki: "On 22 August 2012, Wolves accepted an offer from Sunderland of £12 million.[25] Fletcher signed a four-year contract with Sunderland."

He's still got a bit left on it then so unless Sunderland won't rid of him I can't see this one happening

If Long is no longer available, I'm sure there is better value elsewhere for £6M than Fletcher.

Fletcher's a very good player when fit - but what are the chances of his body actually holding together? He's basically made of crisps.

The Mirror have been spot on in the past. He is made of paper though. On his day, like Andy Carroll, he is simply unplayable. The problem is that they don't have many of those days

The Mirror linked us with every player going in the summer. Even a non-dart player throwing 100 darts at a board will hit the 20 a couple of times.

The daily mail is the one that seems to get stories on us first, has done for years. You'd think after years and countless changes of ownership and management and back room staff that link would break somewhere along the line but lo and behold summer 2012 there they are with the Proschwitz story miles before anyone else decided it had legs and copied them.

I didn't follow this summer in the press just followed on here so I've no idea if they were generally first with things again.

Edit: on fletcher, no thanks, not at that price. £2m might be worth a punt, he's been ****e this season and he's made of chocolate. Dairy milk with caramel to be precise, even gooeyer (I might have invented a word there) on the inside than he looks from outside. And from the outside he looks a milksop as it is.

Anyone thinking we can get a better striker than Steven Fletcher is seriously dreaming or still on the booze from christmas. If (which ill admit is a big if) we can keep him fit he would be a brilliant signing and exactly what we need. Probably the best headerer (is that a word?!) of a football in the premier league and perfect to get on the end of elmos crosses.

Proper clarification. Paper and crisps my arse.

My own thinking on Fletcher was as Peanut Brittle.

Good nut on him for headerer's, obviously, looks tough but breaks easily.

You've got to feel for Sunderland.

It's not that long ago we were losing our players to better clubs.

Burnley would probably want even more for Ings! Young, English and scoring goals for a promotion chasing side.

Bendtner, Long, McCormack would all be a better bet than 'Sicknote' Fletcher. A squad with our budget and depth can't afford to have players sat on the sidelines like Bullard, Aluko etc. I would always look at injury record when considering a player. I'd avoid Fletcher with a barge pole, particularly if that's our total budget on one player.
