Note that since Newcastle are above Manchester United the BBC have stopped putting the top-6 table position into the Live Football Feed.

Without any doubt the match hinged on the referee today – by virtue of the fact he's the guy with the power to make influential decisions.

In all honesty though, were his decisions totally unjustified? I haven't seen the incidents so perhaps those who have can explain.

From what I gather the most contentious was the double booking for Whelan so was that especially harsh?

Had to take advantage though and pleased they did. Should have had a few more! :D

Whelan's 1st was a definite yellow, his second was probably not in my opinion. The 2nd sending off was one of those incidents where you have seen them given and also not given....just depends who's reffing on the day, which way the wind blows and what colour their tongue is. Definite penalty, denying a goalscoring opportunity so I guess by the letter of the law he had to go.

Definite handball from Willo leading up to our equaliser though that atkinson missed, despite looking straight at it from all of 5 yards away.

I'm not gonna complain though, I ****ing hate stoke, I hated Pulis and I hate Mark Hughes so I'm over the moon that we've hammered them.

Probably should have had another 2 pens and HBA hit the woodwork twice so we made them pay big style.

Credit to the lads though, Stoke got men behind the ball very well in the 2nd half, we were just far too good...and Ben Arfa ripped them to bits, he's an absolute joy to watch.

Cool thanks for that. To be honest we rarely get the key decisions we deserve let alone the luck, even at home, so perhaps we're due that.

Harsh on Stoke then perhaps and certainly wouldn't have been 5-1 with 11 men each...

the ref was ****e today should have had 2 more pens, he was giving sympathy to the Stoke players

as far as the sending off's concerned
the first sending off was a bad foul minutes after Whelan had been booked
second sending off was a pull back on Remy when he had slipped past him going on goal

I didn't manage to see the game today so have no idea whether the sendings off were justified, but listening to the BBC after the game the two things that they seem to be focusing on are that Stoke brought this on themselves and that we were absolutely clinical in taking advantage of the situation - which not many teams have managed to do lately in similar circumstances.

No idea how accurate this is, but I don't really care. We won - again!!! :)

Whelan had just been booked when he went head to head with Cabaye
after the ref booked him he then went over to Cabaye pointing at him, can't say what he said but the finger pointing
    was very animated
when Cabaye next got the ball he raked down the back of Cabaye's calf (second yellow) his own stupidity
up till then Stoke had kept the ball and threatened more than us
nothing harsh about any of the decisions

By God we got the rub of the green today! When everything went against us vs Hull & the mackems, you wondered when they'd balance out. Then we went to Spurs, they had 187 shots and didn't score, and it's been evened up today with the most petulant display of cr@p I've ever seen. Should've had at least one more penalty, so if we'd scored the one we didn't.....8-1 beckoned (are you watching, Sir Bobby!)

But you didn't mention the other 2 blatant penalties that weren't given 'cause the ref took pity on you.

Stop hallucinating and be thankful you weren't spanked 8-1 <whistle>

What a bunch of cloggers Stoke were.

    They are my new Wigan.

    Not a neutral.

As a "neutral" Everton were 100% denied a point at the end, changed the game...

What's more it was purely because the ref wanted to help NUFC close the gap on the Toffees!

Now now lads, its hard for Mackems like Whitey to watch us steaming on. We were meant to be fighting relegation and have dropped off by now. Obviously its the refs and fixture list which explain the chasm between us. I think it is really ungrateful after they were handed three fortunate points by us. Very rich to bring refs into it given Fletchers climb on Dummet was a blatant foul.

Great result yesterday. Whelan just thick as pig ****. Booked for saying something or kicking the ball away, then appeared to point to Cabayes legs while saying something. I can only assume he was letting him know he was gonna kick him first chance he got. Sure enough he did. Wasn't that bad but you know whats coming when you deliberately run over and kick someone. Wilson was obviously a red. I think that is third time this season Remy has been hauled down like that, the first that has actually been called correctly. Hughes throwing a hissy fit was great fun.

Prior to the sending off I thought they edged it. Long way to go of course and we may well have turned it around anyway. We seemed very subdued, lacked energy and our passing was poor. No tempo to our play. We took full advantage of the numerical advantage though. We were quite smart too, not expending much energy in the process. Roll on Arsenal.

    <doh>

    games last for 90mins mate

out of the first 30mins of play
we had about 10mins of wasting time by people who still can't tie their bootlaces
a goalkeeper that can't make up his mind which side of the pitch he wants to take the goal kick from

you could see Hughes's trying to get his tactics across to the players by throwing his coat in the air
he wanted the ball lumped up in the sky
got to laugh at Hughes and his 'poor little me' comments after the game, such a sad bastard
he was a dirty twat when he played, and a bigger whinging twat now he 's a manager
