If they are serious and it isnt just a bluff? I suppose they pick up the option for the extra year then try to sell him if the new manager doesnt want him. They could probably get what they value him for if he has a full year left on his contract. Or they get him to sign a new contract then the new manager if he doesnt want him sells him and instead of 1 year left he has something like 3 years left and they still get what they want for him, perhaps a bit more as his contract length went up.

His contract really isnt ending at the end of this year if they have an option for him for another year. Every team would take that option rather than allow a player to leave for nothing, so they are not really forced to sell him in January.

The problem WBA have, is they've got too many strikers.

Anelka, Anichebe, Beralhino, Sessegnon, Vydra, Rosenburg and Long.

They can't possible keep all those players happy by giving them enough matches and game time. I'd say Long would be better off moving on, maybe to us or elsewhere. But as Brady is apparently good mates with him, I hope Bruce has been telling him to remind Long everyday how much we want to sign him!

He is saying that if the right player is available that will strengthen the team he will ask the question to the Chairman. Also, with regards to Davies, that every player has his price, but he is building a team and not looking to dismantle what we have.

Add to that, that after our game with them, I would hope he'd be thinking "bloody hell, guaranteed start every game, more chance of staying up, and I'd be banging them in and end up a Tiger's Legend!".

This is what I don't get about our striker problems. We've gone 3 years in the Championship with only Fryatt showing any kind of goalscoring form in that time. We've had a good defence and a midfield that's created sometimes 30 chances a game for our piss poor strikeforce to waste (that Xmas/NY when we lost two games 1-0 having had high 20s shots on goal compared to the oppositions 3 or 4) and we've been not far off making the playoffs, and then got promoted. Why hasn't some 3rd or 4th choice striker at a PL club, or a 3rd choice striker at a relegated PL club with a PL front 2 (in previous seasons) or a 1st choice striker at Championship club (last summer) been interested in moving to us when they'd be almost guaranteed first team football and given a great opportunity to make a name for themselves by taking a good side to promotion/comfortable survival?

We've had the deal with Austin that fell through, but where else have we missed out, we've only ever been linked with mediocre players or **** players. I know we're not Man U or Arsenal, but surely the opportunity to play a major part in getting us promoted should have been a more attractive proposition than being Stokes 3rd or 4th choice striker and never playing a game. The money can't have been that much different surely?

This no doubt. Surely strikers who are any good look at us and think "If I go there I've got regular week in, week out PL football" because as long as they're half good in front of goal they'd be getting on the team sheet every week.

Pearson brought in Fryatt and McLean as the answer to all our problems, unfortunately whilst you couldn't fault the work ethic of McLean his return was meagre. Fryatt on the other hand was on fire, but obviously his injury ruled him out most of last season.

Other than Fryatt, we haven't had anyone else capable of sharing the goals burden with him. Proschwitz and Sagbo one hit and one miss, which is what concerns me about going into Europe to sign a striker for every diamond, how many lemons do you have to buy?

What about Bechio from Norwich, looking to leave and could be a decent signing?

I know we arnt Man U and dont have loads of cash to buy players who may one day turn out to be really good. If we did Aron Johannsson would be a good buy. Apparantly Celtic are trying to get him from AZ. He has a really good chance to become the leading single season goal scorrer for any American. He is on a pace to beat Altidores record of 31 goals in a season. Pretty young player and the future of the US national team whatever that is worth.

It's lazy to say the least but here you go.

Hull plot £6million Steven Fletcher move after Black Cats hit man falls down Sunderland pecking orde

Hull City boss Steve Bruce is ready to make a record-breaking move for Sunderland striker Steven Fletcher.

Scotland international hit man Fletcher has fallen out of favour under Gus Poyet in recent weeks and the Tigers are set to pounce.

And Bruce will try to tempt the Black Cats into a sale - but it will cost a staggering £6 million even if the price comes down.

Bruce has been looking for a striker who can play on his own and score goals to give his side more of a threat and Fletcher knows the role.

Hull chief Bruce knows that there is still work to do to stay up and wants to bring in new goalscoring threats for the rest of the season - and beyond.

Fletcher could be sold by Sunderland if Poyet finds new players. The South American boss prefers Jozy Altidore just now and leaves him on the bench.

We should be able to do better for the money, but there's the double edge to it to consider as well. It strengthens our squad us whilst weakening a rival, and if they sell us him it could prompt a recall for Graham (as they'll be down a striker in the squad) allowing us to bring someone else in on loan as well.

They will only let him go if they can get someone better. Shouldnt our strategy be to get whomever they really want as opposed to getting their leftovers?

Not if the person they want to sign costs them twice as much. Fletcher is already not playing for them. Shouldn't our strategy be to have their 2nd or 3rd choice striker rather than their 4th or 5th like we currently do.
