Won today in spite of Powell. Didn't stay for the tunnel jumps at the end. Does anyone understand what the subs were about ?...we just dropped ever deeper and invited them on.

How good a player is Jordan Cousins going to be <badger>

Dont think the subs were that Defensive today... Yes they were mainly Defensive minded players yet Evina led a couple of great breakaways with a nice burst of pace and could have setup two goals (first he decided to dive for a pen / the second Yann couldnt quite get to)

Seems like Powell can do no right in some people's eyes... Probably hopeing for an equalizer just to slate Powell.
We play Leeds off the pitch Leeds rode their luck Leeds score from only 4 chances they had Powell gets slated cos a loss is a loss.
We win today and Powell gets slated no win situation the Evina substitution was anything but defensive

Ha ha Captain. I got the Huddersfield cup defeat last time I was home, so next time I fly back, I'll let you pick the flights as you seem to have a good eye. Still buzzing about a home win on boxing day, which I suppose is a sign of the times, but who cares, Im not going to do analysis at christmas. We beat a side who are probably better than us quality wise, so we earn another breather.
As far as Stewart goes, he's had a good season by all accounts, so if he has an off day and the others come in and cover his back, I'm not too concerned. After one of the longest pre-season's on record, the team seem to be showing signs of gelling!!

Delighted with the 3 points, but the substitutions were ridiculous, how can anyone say they weren't defensive? Dervite for Church? We were playing so well, after that we just invited pressure. Stewart isn't a left winger, he doesn't have a left foot. A lot of stepovers and no end product, Jackson isn't a left winger either but I'd put him straight back into the side on Sunday. We had a bit of luck with our 2nd goal today, we got a throw in when Kermorgant got the last touch, from which Wiggins put in the cross. Kermit, Cousins and Wilson all stood out. Just the aforementioned change for the Wednesday game, dread to think what the pitch will look like if there's a lot of rain before then.

But they had a lot of luck when the ref bottled a second yellow for El Abd.

"By all accounts"? I haven't seen many people saying that. Much the same as all the other wingers we have tried, Green, Wagstaff, Ephraim, etc. Got more natural ability than them but, like them, only effective in rare flashes. Better on the right, but there is no vacancy there now that the Ronaldo of Collier Row is back in his right position.

I was quite pleased to see Dervite come on for a change. We were all over the place at corners, they had at least 2 free headers straight from corner kicks, and I hoped Dervite would shore this up. Evina's fresh legs caused them problems, not a bad idea on that heavy pitch, surely? I didn't agree with taking Wilson off to get his ovation. The game wasn't won, and he wasn't knackered.

Could this be when our season starts? Having a good right hand side now with Solly back, Wilson can cover if he overlaps appears a good partnership and could be the difference between us this year and last year? But the left hand side, what to do there? Harriott, Jackson or Stewart, seems a bit unfair to drop Stewart but we all seem to agree he is useless on the left but do you drop him because of that, do you play Jackson on the left and rely on the pace of the full backs on both side and play a rather defensive right and left mid?

    Who'd be a manager, eh?

If Jackson is anything like fit, then yes, simply because we have no better option. It is a pity we don't have just a little money as the right signing for that position, and another striker to alternate with Church, and we would have a solid Championship side. Not talking about superstars, just players who are the right fit, the way Chris picked up players relatively cheaply when we were in Div One.

How about Wordsworth on loan? He won't get a look in at Ipswich the way they are playing.

Next season I hope Poyet or Holmes-Dennis will solve that problem.

I'd keep Stewart. Was a quiet game but he is a genuine goal threat and his relationship with wiggins is getting better. They looked better than Wilson/Solly at Bolton, but Wilson got the goals today.

More 'personal' negativity from the anti Powell Poster. Consistent in his inconsistency from backing his appointment to then backing his sacking even after a win. When the team loses it's all the managers fault, when the team wins it's nothing to do with the manager who set them up and coached them before the game and got the right tactics and team selection.

Why the **** do people have to moan about Powell when we win. All some people have talked about is Powell's substitutions. How about a bit of positivity FFS some people are just so negative it does my head in. How about talking about Wilson's two great goals, Kermys wonderful free kick, but no, let us criticise Powell. Vol I like a lot of your postings but your constant one dimensional arguments have worn very thin.

You beat Powell with a stick everytime we play win lose or draw.

Ps I thought Evina's pace caused them a few problems, but hey what do I know. I am going to give these forums a swerve for a while as it just winds me up.

Dickp- I agree about Evina. If he's going to play like that he could be the answer to the LM position. I expect Stewart to be leaving us soon in search of a permanent move somewhere, now that he's match-fit, and with Wiggins coming back to his best Evina could be just the man for the job. CP went to great lengths to keep him, and it would make sense to see why.

I would say we should try Evina at LM against Oxford in the FA Cup especially as he looked good there yesterday against Brighton yet after his performance in the League Cup fixture (combined with being on the bench the last two games) I think it would be harsh not to give that slot to Jordan Cook

If we are going to swap things around for the Oxford game I would like to see Fox at LB and Evina at LM.... Cook on the bench again

Welcome back. Although I have to say that a2c was funnier <doh>

    @dick

Seems to me that too many were keen to leap on yesterday's very welcome win as some sort of vindication for CP. Lets be honest, Brighton played the better football. Short, sharp passing, and plenty of movement. We were dire first half- although we got better in the conditions after the restart.

Why do we keep wellying it long ?

Stewart has got no left foot whatsoever. Any other Club now and he would be feeling the wrath of the boo boys, and rightly so. Poor man Lloyds Sam. I sat by the tunnel yesterday, the kid clearly jumped out of a couple of 50/50s second half. Send him back to Hull in January.

    The subs were poor.

We got pushed further and further back, yes Dervite gave us height but we had nobody up front and nobody to hold the ball up.

Even if we finish the season half way ( and we won't) I want Powell gone. He is blatantly milking our fan's naive sentimentality and is well past his best as our manager. Let him do his tunnel jumps at his natural level as a manager - Dagenham and Redbridge.

13,000 at most in the ground yesterday suggests I am not a bad judge.
