Newcastle turn attention to Demba Ba as Kevin Gameiro joins PSG

    Newcastle lead the race to sign West Ham striker Demba Ba.

    The Magpies have turned their attention to the 26-year-old Hammers star after losing out in the race for number one target Kevin Gameiro, the Daily Mail reports.

    The interest in Gameiro from Newcastle and other Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, was well-known. But the Lorient man, who bagged his first international goal for France against Ukraine last week, will stay in Ligue 1 after agreeing a four-year deal with Paris St Germain.

    PSG managed to steal a march on their English rivals to snap-up the 24-year-old in a deal worth a reported €11million plus add-ons.

    Gameiro was highly sough-after following his 22 goals last season.

    Second-choice Ba is also wanted by other clubs, but it is believed that Newcastle are at the front of the queue. Everton dropped their interest over his rumoured £4 million-a-year salary demands.

    Any deal will be subject to a medical. Ba has previously seen moves to Premier League teams fall through after failing medicals.
