He's a solid player. Hard working, great hold up play just lacks that sharpness needed to be a TOP forward. He's a great second choice/ squad player. Just not quite good enough for a title winning side.
His hold up play was good today, got us the third but his finishing was poor. Still he helped make a goal but he needs to start scoring again.
One thing I've noticed is Giroud's hold up play + Podolski's cannon of a left foot is such a good combination. He needs to score more and end his drought.
His job is to score, not go through game after game with no goals, for you to come and say "oh but his link up play was good", he's main job is to score, and he's been very **** lately, and should be dropped. We could have easily been 2-0 down if West Ham took their chances, when it was us who should've been 2-0 up but weren't because of Giroud's **** finishing.
As long as he makes goals I'm fine. This isn't the old days where a striker's only job is to score. I'd rather he create goals and we win than he scores and loses. He needs to score more yes, and we do need another striker yes, but don't just rubbish the fact that he played an integral part in our 3rd goal with the "yeah well its not his job BS"
Well that's you, for the rest of us, we want our striker to score, as in do his job, which isn't creating goals, but making them when they're put on a plate for him. He played an integral part in not scoring for several games now, and not scoring 2 easy goals today. So now you can be happy with Giroud, a striker has gone over a month and several games without a goal. It's your the who shouldn't be bsing which is what you're doing by trying to make this spin job of "oh he made a goal!". Get the **** out of here.
I genuinely think if we bring in another striker that they will prove how much more Giroud should be doing. At one point after the first 3 or 4 games this season I thought he would prove me wrong, but sadly no. He is just crap.
He actually has pretty good stats and is comparable with almost all the other strikers in the league bar Aguero and Suarez who are a clear cut above the rest. He has a similar amount of goals (and league goals) as Rooney, RVP, Sturridge, Lukaku, Negredo and puts in his fair amount of assists. He isn't the world beater we all would like but he also isn't nearly as bad as several of our fans would like to make him out to be.
He hasn't scored since the Southampton game. Naturally you can understand that some of us are "displeased" about this.
Yep, RVPhas had injuries etc so hasn't had as much game time as the others on the list. The point i was making still stands though, his stats are up amongst all the other strikers considered top strikers at big teams, bar the two top performers, so he obviously isn't doing as poorly as it is being made out. That isn't me absolving him of criticism, just pointing out thatwe shouldn't go OTT while he is having some poor form.
Yeah agreed, he needs to start putting the ball in the back of the net. His link-up play is great, he is a fantastic asset at set pieces both offensive and defensively, but i'd like to see him get some more goals. He was getting regular goals earlieri n the season and hopefully he will recapture that form and the goals will come.
I honestly think that if we bring in another striker it will show just how much Giroud is doing. Luckily, I don't think most people at Arsenal agree with your point of view. Unless we buy a big strong midfielder, we can't get a more attacking striker. You can go on and on about Giroud as much as you like, but there are very few strikers available that play the way he does. If we keep using terms like "better" you are dumbing down the conversation. What exactly do you want him better at? People are not creating decent chances for him, defences are clogging the middle and our wide players are drifting in and clogging it even more. Defences HAVE to deal with him, and when they do that, it makes space for the midfielders coming in. Quite apart from everything else, most centre backs playing against us are exhausted 2/3 of the way through the game. I think we could buy another striker in January, but I expect none of the doomers to like who Wenger picks, because most of them know that the chances of even Falcao coming straight in and doing better than Giroud are virtually nil. It will just be the usual doom and gloom and negativity about absolutely everything that the club does.
It was actually just a whinge about Giroud by I am a Gooner, but you go overboard and make out it was about 'absolutely everything that the club does'. Nothing like a bit of exaggeration to try and make your point more valid.
Thanks cini, you are right, it is just Giroud that frustrates me at the moment. Giroud missed a couple of absolute sitters today, one from about two yards out and he only needed to stretch his leg out but he didn't even try. Its the consistency of things like that which frustrate me. He has 2 goals in the last 12 games in all competitions, which is about 1/4 of a season and has not had many assists in that time either. I also notice his losing the ball a lot more than anyone else. I don't know the number of assists he has but its not many. Please feel free to prove this statement wrong if you can. Other than him I tend to stick up for our players and the last one I felt was as poor relatively to the rest of the team as Giroud was Denilson. That just made me think, they have one thing very much in common. Most of their play went/goes backwards. I just want whats best for Arsenal and imo Giroud isn't it.
What you're forgetting though is that if Falcao came in he wouldn't be any better than than Giroud. That's a fact of course because Toledo says it is so.
Not sure what the point of this thread is. For a club with Arsenal's aspirations, we need a more classy and clinical finisher. I like Giroud, i honestly do, but seriously, the guy is not top 4 material. You can stick any decent Prem forward as our CF and they too would excel from playing with our top creative midfield. The thing is we are missing that top quality forward that can change the big games, the games we are struggling in and finding it hard to win. Does Giroud fit the bill? No.
Giroud will find his scoring touch again. All strikers go through a dry patch, at least Giroud offers the team good general play too. Even when he's not scoring he's still good to have in the team.
