Rubbish. HR could've thought about signing Townsend 'til the cows came home, there was absolutely no chance of securing his signature.
We were fortunate enough that HR had the link to Spurs and connection to Townsend which enabled him to secure the loan in the first instance. None of the players who left on loan during the summer wanted to play in the Championship and it was right they weren't left round to stink up the place.
Well Redknapp himself wanted him. "Redknapp admitted: “Andros did great last year but Tottenham don’t really want to sell him. He’s not for sale as far as I know. “It’s difficult. I couldn’t see us being able to buy him. I think he’d be too expensive for us. “But I do like Andros — he’d be brilliant. I’d love to sign him on loan but whether we could do that, I wouldn’t bet on it.” There was me trying to give him a bit of credit for aiming high and you just have a go at my post.
For me he still has potential, always puts in a shift but still has a long way to go. Spurs won't be taking him back and straight into the first team like Walker and Townsend but that doesn't mean he is a lost cause by any means.
As I have said a number of times in my match reports - I haven't been that impressed with him to be honest. I can see he moves around into space well, and always looks to receive a pass, but too many times his final ball is poor and he gets pushed off the ball too easily. I remember some Spurs fans when we got him said he always looks to play a forward pass. For me he doesn't do that often enough.
He looks ok,but I just dont know he brings to the table. Ok,he makes a few nice passes but I just dont think he is cut out for this league. He looks about 13 years old and doesnt release the ball quick enough and paper bag strenghth. He will be the next Ramsay??. Ramsey is 6ft+ and strong. I think he might be one for the future but Kranjar/Benayoun look more suited to that position.
