Raj used to be very good wehn it first opened, without a doubt Hull's best at the time. I revisited a couple of years ago and it was frankly turgid. Dont know what happened there.
Passing it and signs for it every time you enter or leave Hull, plus isn't it something to do with the press association where the fixture list releases come from, or is that next door in Howden?
They're as good as calling you out as a metrosexual there Galante. That kind of besmirchment calls for more than just a boycott.
I once had a balti, or something, can't remember at Ladygate Tandoori in Beverley after a day in the sun at the races. Spewed it up immediately. True story. That's not a slur on the curry, I honestly can't remember what it was like. This happened somewhere else once. Curry rests heavy after a skinful.
PA TV guides has been based in Howden for a long time. PA Sport moved into Howden in early 2000's. I have NEVER seen a sign for Newport when coming into or out of Hull.
Astonished, Newport may be a bit small, but I'd expect most people living and working in the region to know whereabouts it is!
Why is this such a big deal? There must be a similar sized place in Yorkshire that you haven't heard of. Is that astonishing? It's just personal experience why you know it. And I have worked at PA, but that was about 15 years ago.
We used to stop at the chippy in Newport for pattie butties on the way home from City. Vindaloo for a sit down, stuffed pepper starter, mushroom rice & a keema naan. Poppdoms too, goes without saying!! Balti at home. A leftover balti is better in a morning after toastie
Always got to be a keema nan. When i was working in London went to some cracking restaurants in Tooting. A lot of them were Pakistani restaurants. Cant remember any of the names but in one i had the best keema nan ever. It was more like a mince pie, bout an inch thick it was. kinell my mouths watering now.
I assume most City fans are familiar with the East Riding and know where Newport is. So yes, it is astonishing!
I drove to Ull from my house today and paid special attention to look for a sign saying Newport. There weren't any.
Unless my memory fails me, before the Raj, it was called Bombay Restaurant. Now before that, although not sure if it was immediately before, it used to be called the Shish Mahal. Now that, my friends (and the rest of you whiney ****s) was the best Indian I've been to. Yes, it got shut down for health reasons, and moved to Wright St before getting shut down again, but hey.....
