do we have any choice though, the names banded about at the moment dont want to come, so do we just appoint someone because we need to or work hard for the next 5 months trying to persuade our targets that we are a good move for them
Is it really true that he has an Arsenal tattoo OS? I can deal with Gooners, but tattooed Gooners? No thanks!
If Levy appoints Sherwood as manager, then we are royally ****ed. I will never support him as manager, because I know that there would be little point in doing so. His appointment, whatever the rhetoric spouted by Levy through the club's press office, will be purely down to the fact that Levy/Lewis do not want to spend the proper cash to get in the kind of manager that we actually need. I rather fear that we are witnessing the kind of autocratic behaviour from Levy that Saints suffered at the hands of Rupert Lowe (who, ironically, Redknap also worked under), who - if you can all recall your history - dragged Saints down to a slow, painful, yet inevitable haul through the lower leagues. before they finally got shot of him. Sherwood's appointment as manager would set the seal on any hope I had that Levy does actually know what he's doing, and that he's merely acting a complete and utter muppet as some kind of early April Fool's joke to rope-a-dope our rivals.
To be totally honest, I've suspected this is the case ever since Jol's departure. I still don't forget and will never forgive Levy and his chums all shaking hands and patting each other on the back in the stands during that infamous UEFA Cup game against Getafe where the whole team knew he was gone except him. The board all thought they had got in the greatest thing since sliced bread and we all know what a total **** up Ramos turned out to be. The problem we have is that Levy thinks he's smarter than he actually is. Conceit is a dangerous trait and one that seldom looks at one's self to see their own faults. I've said it for years now but I want shot of this Chairman. Great numbers man so go be the CFO. But get a Chief Exec or Chairman who's a football man and let them run the club/team cause he hasn't got a scooby what he's doing in that department!
It has nothing to do with not spending the cash(in terms of management) as you can't lay that at the Spurs board in terms of hiring managers, or the hiring of a Dof, proven by as Flaspur points out in the eagerness to remove Jol and pay whatever it takes to get their man in Ramos. Levy and Lewis are hoping to find that special manager who will turn Spurs into champions league regulars their way,. The Redknapp way, the most successful way so far, never fitted in with their blueprint for success and now they will go after their dream of a Dof with deep contacts (Baldini) and a coach who can work with a Dof and bring through young players. I've no doubt they will spend freely in their pursuit of such a manager but if Sherwood is hired then it will be because he's in their view the best option out of what's available after looking through actual contenders. The managers everyone wants aren't available mid season and also will be concerned by interference from a Dof so the list Is dependent on who can work with Baldini.
I don't like what I've seen of Sherwood as a person so far. BUT! As people I also don't like what I see of fergie, Wenger, moun-rhino or even Rodgers. The only manager towards the top of the PL I do like is Martinez. I didn't think much of avb as a person, but I still thought he could have been a success. If Sherwood gets it, let's not write him off straight away. Everyone starts somewhere. He needs an experienced no2 though (quieroz?) IMO, not Freund
Its the only way you can approach it really, the no2 is an interesting one, I see the initial logic about more experinced....may aswell make whoever fits that bill as no.1! I can't see Sherwood working with someone of, whats the word, greater stature, it would lead to a difference of opinion eventually. He strikes me as a his way or no way (bad news!), so a no.2 who's opinion he can dismiss will be more likely imo....his dopey mate Freund ticking all those boxes.
Exactly. I'm hoping Sherwood will prove us all wrong since Levy seems to be in favour of taking his sweet time over this but I just can't see it. It's a ridiculous decision and if losing midweek to West Ham's second string didn't wake Levy up that then I'm not confident anything will. I'm grateful for our improvement under Levy but right now he's running us like a joke club.
What is patently obviously, and a fact that no one can argue with, is that Sherwood is completely unproven at this level. Yet, Levy appears content to trust that he'll do better AVB. Perhaps he's taken the view that anyone can do better than AVB? In which case, just how ****e does Levy believe AVB was, and why on Earth (other than it being a very cheap option) did he appoint AVB in the first place?
Re. the part I've bolded - his severance package surely says otherwise... I think Levy got rid and then suddenly woke up in the night realising he hadn't sorted out the key part of a replacement. Maybe his to-do list that he'd written on a post-it that morning folded in his pocket and covered that last point.
I think he has, HIAG. Otherwise, surely, he would have lined up a decent replacement before sacking Mr Boas (in the manner of Ramos-Jolgate).
https://vine.co/v/hEzbQTggzdm Has managed to piss off the fans in a single press conference, is just deluded enough for the job, and he's an Arsenal fan too. Sign him up!
I don't think any of our fans really care that much about those things. If he wins us games and does well everyone will like him, the trouble is no one thinks that's likely. He could be a die hard Spurs fan who says all the right things in the media but that wouldn't matter if he doesn't get results.
Good post. It gives me a better appreciation of where you're coming from. My prejudice is towards sticking with people, maybe because I like loyalty as a virtue, and maybe because I've seen so many organizations that are so quick to go negative and so reluctant to simply give people the time and the resources, and above all the trust that they need to do their jobs properly. Sherwood is testing this prejudice severely, however. "I know what the fans want," he says. Really? Then why won't you give it to us? Because I'd say what we want is not to lose to West Ham, especially at home, especially because we went a goal up to a half-strength relegation level team and hoped we could somehow hang on by the skin of our teeth instead of trying to bang in three or four. I'm afraid the sacrificial kingship of Sherwood is going to be so short he'll hardly have time to shag anyone before the axe falls.
Sherwood just comes across as an ego-maniac and seems to be saying far too much in his capacity as caretaker-manager. He reminds me of those ultra-deluded types you see on the X factor auditions... completely convinced that they are great, yet ultimately they are not. Saying things like the Chairman needs to hurry up and make an appointment, or that Sherwood himself would not accept any other position than the Managers job?
Tbf, he said he wouldn't be assistant, not that he wouldn't take any other position. Jamie Redknapp seemed to believe that if he didn't get the managers job that he would go back to managing the U21 because he enjoys that. Whether Jamie Redknapp knows anything is a whole other thread of course
