"Don't pretend you weren't expecting it"

Was "expecting it" on a different article though. :)

Dutch reporters have supposedly been to Van Gaal's house to question him over the spurs job.

Apparently he's denied contact with Levy.

Louis Van Gaal "I never give comment on offers I get."

Questioned on managing both Netherlands and spurs he said: "Anyone who knows me knows I would not do that".

Yea Van Gaal is never going to happen, he's been telling Dutch media for the past two years that he is 'sacrificing' two years of his managerial career to manage a national team on the World Cup.

What about after the World Cup?

I.e. get someone in temporary (Hoddle) for now.

Edit - just on the spurs manager position:

I still really don't want Sherwood to be made Manager/Head Coach - I fear with him leading and with people like Les in the background, it'll become very lad-y in terms of the leadership style. I don't view Sherwood as an authority figure - he doesn't come across as one.

I also think Sherwood will try too hard to get us playing 'the Spurs way' - which, as I recall from his time, was try to outscore the opposition and put little to no effort on defending.

If Sherwood had played that team last week against Liverpool, we'd have scored a few but probably conceded 10. I don't see Sherwood as having the tactical know-how to know when to say 'you know what, this team are gonna attack well so I'll set the team up to stop them'.

My instinct is any good form is a honeymoon period. Even managers like Graeme Souness and Glenn Roeder have made impacts, been hired then turned ****!

Or Maybe after all the slating Sherwood has had, he may ram them words down our throats and do a job on a interim basis.

Or we could lose against Wba and doom and gloom again.

Everything at the moment is temporary , from our manager to players form, nothing is consistent but at least the dull clouds have moved away for a week.

Hoddle Is back in the press talking up his desire to return. No real names standing out so temporary manager and a uncertain season, unless Levy manages to find that elusive coach that we desperately need to sort this club out.

So given our present predicament, and assuming we don't find anyone until the end of the season (as it is looking like Levy wants Van Gaal), who would you prefer as temporary manager until the end of the season: Hoddle or Sherwood?

I've seen this point made a few times, makes absolutely no sense to me. Surely Sherwood can be vindicated in his team selection today by the fact that we won, and could have easily won by a couple more, the team and tactics worked. I don't see any reason to think that he will blindly pick this same XI and tactics week in week out. I know he's no Einstein, but give him some credit, he's been in the game for 30 odd years.

Thanks for that question Fla! Can I answer with neither! But my initial answer to the same question last week was Hoddle, if it was a straight choice between him and Sherwood.

So Van Gaal is being touted as Levy's choice?

    Took this from Wikipedia

    Coaching philosophy
When asked about his system in 2008, Van Gaal said: "It's a
footballing philosophy more than a system. A system depends
on the players you have. I played 4–3–3 with Ajax, 2–3–2–3
with Barcelona and I can play 4–4–2 with AZ. I'm flexible. The
philosophy stays the same though. I don't think that you can
adapt it to every possible situation. You need the right mindset,
and it depends on how the players see the coach and vice versa.
The coach is the focal point of the team but you need to have an
open mind, and so do all the players. Everyone needs to work
together to achieve a common goal. Preparing your tactical
formation is essential. Each player needs to know where he has
to be, and that is why there needs to be mutual understanding
because you need absolute discipline. This is a sport played by
22 men, and there are 11 opponents out there playing as a
team. Each individual needs to know who he has to beat and be
    there to support his team-mates."

    I like his words!

"No one at Tottenham would shed a
single tear if Glenn Hoddle was
    sacked tomorrow," Sherwood told The
    Sun.
"The only way they will bring success
back to Tottenham is through a
    change of manager.
"The dressing room is not together
and there is no team spirit. Nobody is
busting a gut for the manager.

    .........

Just don't remind Hoddle of what Sherwood said!

I'm sure Hoddle remembers this all too well Boss. Good find though. Sherwood comes across as a right toe rag in that article. Spineless back stabber springs to mind.

I knew there was a reason I've never been keen on Sherwood as a person. Now we remember why! When Hoddle left, Robbie Keane was a good pro and said the right things.

Then you had Sherwood, who may have been right with his words but no need to stick the boot in and be a toe rag!

Anyhow holding grudges isn't a good quality so it was a long time ago, I'm sure they could 'forget' but people like Sherwood tend to revert back to their Disrespectful ways. What's the odds he will mouth off if he doesn't get the Spurs job?

I didn't really think the quotes were that positive, at best it sounded like he might join us after the World Cup.

If we can't get anyone in now then I hope we get in Hoddle or Quieroz until the end of the season. Hoddle's already said he'd be happy to take it even if it was only until the end of the season and Queiroz is highly rated by Fergie, which is good enough for me.

It would not bode well. More so given Sherwood has now had a taste of the top job.

It sounds like Sherwood was sticking up for Freund too, could keep his job as assistant

If AVB had won by a speculative cross, an own goal and a mistake by the opposition in the penalty area with only one other shot on target in the whole match I doubt anyone would be saying that he got a result.
