If I were a premier league chairman, I'd want hull to change their name. It's a risk free experiment, see if it works without upsetting fans. If it doesn't increase revenue, nothing lost. If it works, then it's an example to follow. In this money dominated football world I can see premier league chairmen considering this a win-win scenario and wanting it to go ahead.
Chazz, what this tells me is that it is the FA who abdicated their position of guardian to the leagues. I have said for many a year that the FA should be pulled down and rebuilt to have some form of integrity and strength, preferably cobbled together with intelligence and vision. The PL have only done what they get paid to do, the FA have done FA.
Odd that some of the longer-established clubs who assiduously court the Far East (CFC,LFC,MUFC etc) haven't tried it. Odd that they haven't immediately followed suit and called themselves Manchester Hunter, Chelsea Dragon and Liverpool Storm. Unless of course, they have clever and well-run marketing depts who know these daft plastic names are a non starter, even in countries with no real football culture.
I think that the concern is that, so far they've traded on tradition and success, but it depends if they see us as starting a precedent for mickey mouse Americanisation that would devalue the over all product, or see the name change of a club like us being of no real consequence, but that could leave them with more choices available for their own changes in the future.
I think you have totally missed the point; whether that is purposely or not is another thing. I put this 'experiment' theory forward a few days ago. If some owner is sat undecided about a name-change and its advantages or disadvantages, then allowing Hull City AFC to become Hull Tigers will allow them to observe the pros and cons from arms-length. Whichever way you look at it we are important and cherished to us (well some of us) and if you work on that premise you are unlikely to be disappointed in your expectations. If you seriously think the owners of other clubs give a flying **** about Hull City AFC then you must be very excited waiting for Santa to make a chimney entry in a couple of nights time. For AA (IMO) the name-change is about ownership, power and control; other owners will want that.

I think even those in favour of the name change will accept that the big 6 clubs in the PL would never consider changing their name due to the fact that they are established as a world wide brand, for example you see the shirts of these clubs everywhere you go. BUT for teams like Norwich, Sunderland, Stoke etc they don't have that world brand and although at the moment it has only been 2 clubs talking about changing their names (which unfortunately some fans see as mad/loony but they were intelligent enough to make the money to buy the club) if the FA do allow Hull City to become Hull Tigers then next season we will see Cardiff City become the Cardiff Dragons and then maybe Sunderland's owner will follow next (Storm probably) or Fulham (Fusilliers?), so in the future we could be seeing most clubs with unique names and I look forward to that day
Let's put One Direction in charge of the club, they're really successful, so would obviously do a blinding job.
Wouldn't you be better off watching the NFL? If City change their name, then I'm done with it. If other clubs follow suit I'll give up football completely.

Going to be a sad day for football if changing a club's name to some mickey mouse Americanised name is seen as the way to make money. The game in this country is very much built around tradition, I don't see how anyone can look forward to clubs creating stupid names.
