I love Poch's way of dealing with questions he has no interest in. If you read this article, it's obvious that some of the questions were fielded after the cameras were turned off, because I didn't see/hear all these answers. If I was a reporter, I'd think, bugger it, there's sod all story here to get the readership fired up. As a fan, it's great: http://www.basingstokegazette.co.uk/sport/10893414._/
I've noticed they say they are moving to the written press and cameras must go off. I suppose it would be unfair to a journalist if he asked a question and it got broadcasted before he could get it into print. Poch is very clever with his nonanswers...he avoids minefields. To agree he was flattered by the Spurs offer (which so far has not been made) would be to suggest that Southampton are less than Spurs. His non-English gives him plenty of time to think before answering.
Lambert has also had assists and his mere presence causes problems. His problem is that as a striker he is judged by goals, whereas we know he contributes in other ways. He may get more goals if the team has to be rejigged in Dani's possible absence.
Exactly. When we win it's not a problem if he doesn't score and other do. When we lose people immediately start talking about 'poor form' which I think is unfair.
The problem here is that we seldom get any, Referees know we have an unfair advantage in Rickie, so they don't award them in the interest of fairness.
The new goal line technology is so advanced that it flashes up "goal" before Rickie even hits the penalty.
One of my minor concerns for the medium term future is just how much our performance relies on Rickie. It seems to me that every time he has a bad game we do, too. If he's on form and shows his brilliance, he creates so many opportunities it's staggering. On days when he doesn't fire on all cylinders (Arsenal this year spring to mind) we just don't seem to create much. I'm sure MP is on top of it but there's going to come a point when we won't have Rickie there to keep everything flowing so we'll need a replacement. It's obviously not an urgent problem but it's one that'll have to be faced in a couple of seasons. Vin
Someone pointed out the other day how we've had no goal line incidences recently.. Indeed, the closest one has been the Chelsea/Sunderland LC game, but what do people expect..? From now on it'll be a goal or not a goal. There will be no confusion or incidence.
Could give Rickie a boost if he gets a run of games if Dani suspended, though I doubt he wants that. Unless that is what he asked Santa for!
Have no problem with goal line technology, but, bearing in mind the expense, it was never going to be used much.
True, though Sky would show if is was close. Haven't seen any close decisions recently...suspect in PL there are probably only 1 or 2 a season, but players and managers argue about others that aren't close. It stops those arguments.
Merson being an arse as usual and sarcastically saying "oh why would Pochettino leave Southampton, they're going to win the league in 2 seasons". Trust me, he was taking the piss on it. Twat.
It was said that Spurs couldn't play like Saints as they don't have the legs for it. We do have some lovely legs
My only concern is that I think, for lack of other ideas, Sherwood likes an old fashioned, blood & guts British 4-4-2 which is exactly the thing we tend to struggle with. In other news, am talking my mum and stepdad down tomorrow - they have a combined age higher even than the West Ham midfield, so were suggesting going Harry Ramsden's afterwards - I pointed out that it's not really very nice there. Any good suggestions for somewhere else to go that's quick & reasonable that will be open for a late lunch?
