Why? I didn't hear many complaining when Tan rode to the rescue with his money. Too many fans have the attitude that they somehow are entitled to have "their" club kept going by people able to afford to do it, but without making any concessions themselves. "We'll gladly take your money, but don't do anything we don't like."
The fans should boycott the games, get rid of these idiotic foreign cash cows that swan in on a white horse thinking they know everything about the game, this is EVERYTHING thats wrong with football today!
The stuff at Cardiff is bizarre. Right now the entire club and city should be riding on a wave, just like we were when we got promoted with Lambert and it had started to look like we were going to survive. That sense of unity and momentum must have been worth lots of points for us that season. And Cardiff look as if they're going to sacrifice all that. I'd be surprised if this doesn't soon start affecting their points gained and league position. (Good for us, of course.)
Mad situation, with both Malky and Tan clearly trying to outmanoeuvre each other. From what I remember from the summer, Tan was annoyed because he set a budget of £35m for transfers, when he actually meant for transfers and wages, hence the overspend. To me, that sounds like a foul-up between Tan and the sacked scout-guy, not Malky at all. Malky now asking for more money now is clearly a calculated move. He either gets the money and improves their survival odds, or get's sacked when he's still highly thought of. If he takes them down then he inevitably gets sacked, but when his stock is much lower. The difference is probably between getting a job at a team looking for promotion, or a mid-table side. I don't know what Tan is trying to achieve though, I don't see how he can fail to realise the damage this does to the club, and how it'll cost him more in 6 months time. Keep your manager happy at a cost of maybe £10m now, or spend £2m sacking him now, scrap around for a month to bring in an inferior manager willing to work in those conditions, then miss out on £70m when it all goes wrong and they get relegated?
That font of all football knowledge that is Tan has told Malky to quit or be fired. What an obnoxious toerag.
Sorry Cromer, didn't see your thread. Thought the news happened overnight in UK and I was first on thr scene.
The feeling I get from some fans these days is that it is up to Tan, what he does, how he does it, when he does and where - after all, he's put money in to the club - all be it in the form of loans (as many others do) Maybe such acts will become the normal in British football. Hopefully I will be long gone by that time but I suspect to see a snowball effect in the next decade or so.
No worries. Resurgam might merge the two together if we ask nicely - after all, he could use the exercise to get into rippling shape before taking the boxing day plunge
the latest is the bbc understand tan's targeted replacement is a household name at a british club. so he'll have to pay malky off and then pay compo on the new manager. speculation, Neil Lennon? 'arry?
Surely this comes down to constructive dismissal, so even if Malky resigns he can sue the ass out of cardiff. I really rate him, a lot of clubs could do a lot worse than him.
I agree Guru, I was discussing this with a colleague and the fact is if Malky has an e-mail from Tan to this tune, constructive dismissal should be a very clear case.
I dont blame Malky at all for sitting this out and letting Tan make the move. Actually it takes balls to do that and not walk, so respect from me. Who knows the real reasons behind this, but the "overspend" on players must have gone through a control process within the club and been authorised, it couldn't possibly be a case of someone writing out a cheque for the fee and financial officers of the club not being clear on the costs. If that process failed and there was an OMG moment when they realised the real cost of the players, then there would be other people at fault in the club whose job it is to be fully across this stuff and its vey unlikely to be Malky.
My thoughts are that Tan wants Malky to resign to avoid paying compensation because if he were to sack him he would have to compensate him and pay the rest of his contract up, where as if Malky just resigned he wouldn't be able to claim any compensation. Don't know if I am correct or not but that is how it seems to me. If he does go, can see the fans turning against the board and unrest being caused at the club similar to those dark days of the Chase era. Think Tan is mad trying to get rid of Malky and would like to know what does he know about football?
Cheeky sod. I'll have you know I'm in perfect shape...............................................................'round' is a shape isn't it? Done as requested
Good for him. He deserves that fat wodge of cash. Done nothing short of a terrific job over the past three years
Football in this country has always been dependent on wealthy private owners prepared to finance the club. The general pattern is that clubs like ours, which are private companies owned by their shareholders, depend on having a major shareholder who in reality shoulders the bulk of the financial burden. In almost every case these people are simply tossing their money away. It's a form of charity, and as with most charity, the recipients -- in this case the club's fans -- are seldom appreciative.
