It was a racing incident, Jenson didnt see him which is a shame but when theres that much spay its just unfortunate. Though I feel Lewis needs to rememebr the race is not won on the first few laps looking at the Webber, Schumacher and Button incidents. If he didnt crash out we probably wouldve had a McLaren 1-2 like last year.

On the other hand Lewis was very composed after the race when most people would be furious that the guy who won the race isnt just your team mate in the same car but also responsible for taking you out the race (accidentally). Got to give him credit there.

Not sure why Lauda was fuming though, spur of the moment thing maybe.

So Button was looking where he was going and was unlikely to have been able to see what Hamilton was doing.

I think Racing Incident sums this up well.

I also think that Hamilton puts his car in places where it has no right to be, and his overtakes require that the other car gets out of his way and lets him though. I think that some of the other drivers have got fed up with this and are starting to stand their ground. Hamilton should of known that Webber would never get out of his way, and neither should he.

I hope that Lewis learns from this and is a little more careful in further. He's a great driver and if he cuts out these silly moves he'll be all the better for it.

Good post, neither was to blame. I'd also add that Hamilton's visability wouldn't have been great either, It was the slightest of touches, and I doubt Hamilton could see how far across Buttons left near was.

Sorry but thats complete gibberish, in the case of webber, hamilton passed him, and it was his tryes losing traction on the curb that went him into webber, racing incident! As for Button, he made a mistake, hamilton was miles faster than him as proven by the fact Button apologised for it.

    Well said :)

Too many Hamilton haters too quick to criticise, and fail to see positives (and then accuse Hamilton fans off the opposite)

Well, Jenson may have looked but he certainly wasn't watching was he, I really don't understand how Jenson didn't see Hamilton, Jenson must have been aware Hamilton was chasing him down from the previous corner !

What on the race track? If Hamilton sees a gap he goes for it, whereas most drivers wait for the space of a bus before they make a move. When it works for Hamilton everyone says it's a good move, however when he clips someone everyone cries dangerous driving. I will admit sometimes he gets too desperate to overtake rather than wait for a better opportunity, but then that what helped him win his WDC and various GP's. He shouldn't change his driving style because some people don't like it.

Everyone seems to forget Vettel has had quite a few incidents in overtaking it's just he doesn't seem to have the need to overtake recently always starting from the front. Schumi another. Any connection here..oh yeah all the top drivers have incidents, maybe it's because they do more overtaking they are more likely to be involved.

Hamilton drove into a narrowing gap that was never going to be wide enough to be able to pass, Button just took the normal racing line and did not deviate. It was perhaps a racing incident but really it was Hamilton's poor judgement that created the collision.

What were the steward's conclusions on the Button-Alonso coming together?

Had it not been raining I would agree with you, but I think the spray practically made the mirrors useless. I also think Button saw him before he made his move to go past, maybe he thought Hamilton was going the other side.

That's about right, happyal. Well put.

Sir Stirling Moss has also said Hamilton goes too far. A bit more measured than Niki Lauda, though.

    Racing incident.

Autosport said, "The Spaniard was touched by Jenson Button on lap 37 after seeming to turn in on Button going into Turn 3."

<laugh> what spineless people the stewards are. Alonso turned in on Jenson? what a joke!

If Button hadn't have won a penalty would have been handed down

My annoyance with the stewards is this.

Ever since Spa 08 and the outcry that followed the stewards are seemingly acting in a way to not appear biased against McLaren. Borderline infractions are given the benefit of the doubt, as are tangible infractions and in many cases penalties handed down are done so in such a fashion as to not influence the driver being punished (Valencia '10, Monaco '11) so as not to inflame the victim mentality. If they are already this precious about not wanting to offend the McLaren supporting contingent it was obvious that they were never going to display the stones to deprive a McLaren driver of a win again, however justified the penalty may be.

So the irony is that because of the previous and continuing cries of Ferrari bias, it is actually McLaren, and notably Hamilton, who seem to be getting the most run of the green from the stewards office.

I think it's more likely that the introduction of the driver steward at races is helping to control the ludicrous penalties handed out by the stewards, especially those under Alan Donnelly.

Good decision, not every incident is someone's fault. The stewards made the correct decision.

Got to disaggree, if Hamilton was was passed Webber, why did he run into the back of him? It's the same story with Button, Hamilton was no where near the pass. He just put his nose in there in the hope of the other guy jumping out of his way. Webber even saw it coming and gave him room, even if Hamilton didn't loss grip on the crub there was no chance of him making the past, at best he would of had to brake and let Webber past, at worse he was going to run into the back of him anyway.

As for Button apologising, I think he did that to keep the tension levels in the team down. Button was just being a nice guy, and if it had been anyone else apart from his team mate, he would of finished off his thoughts straight after the accident, i.e. "what is he doing?"

Just want to say that lewis is clearly a great driver, he is fast, consitant and able to change his driving to suit the car. If he can cut out these silly mistakes, and not expect everyone to get out of his way he'll be 100 times better. It doesn't help that some of his fans are too quick to jump to his defense even when he is clearly in the wrong. It's better to accept he's made a mistake and hope he learns from it. I think this is what Lewis himself is doing.
