Stoke City: QPR to revive Crouch interest by Mark Brus 19th December 2013 3:50pm GMT Queens Park Rangers are likely to try again to sign Peter Crouch from Stoke City this January, SportsDirect News understands. The 32-year-old has not been in the best form in the Premier League this season, scoring just two goals in 13 appearances so far, and the Potters may be willing to listen to reasonable offers for the lanky target man. Crouch remains a favourite of QPR boss Harry Redknapp, for whom he has also played under at a number of other clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur and Portsmouth, and Redknapp is determined to bring him to Loftus Road this season. Rangers failed with a £5million bid for Crouch in the summer, but remain keen on strengthening their options upfront as they chase promotion back to the top flight this year. Stoke themselves could enter the market for new attacking players this winter to ensure they move away from the foot of the table.
I was just about to post this... TBH, if we could get him on the same deal as Yossi I think he'd almost gaurantee us promotion from THIS league. We have all the posesion but sometimes lack the cutting edge. This bloke certainly know where the goal is. So from me, its a yes to a 6 months but no to long term..thoughts? PS..This is purely based on promotion. Not thinking about the future or the likes of Nugent, Rhodes etc...
Surely we would be doing them a favour by getting Crunchie off their payroll? Its a yes from me Simon but only on a free or nominal fee
Not for me I'd rather stick with what we have. I have nothing against Crouchie and he always works hard for the team but it would be a backwards step. Too short term ,looks like we will be around the top Jan window so I think we should start looking for more long term investments, I understand the need for some of the older short term gain players HR has brought in but we have enough now, use their experience to bring in the longer term prospects.
We must be in a position to attract good players now. If they think they're in with a chance of playing premier next season. We should definitely be sniffing around the other good strikers in this league who are in teams where promotion is less likely
Always rated Crouch - he's a far better footballer than most people give him credit for. If you're keen on two up front, or attacking midfielders swarming forward, he's a great option for holding the ball up, flicking on, or going alone. His age will count against him if Stoke insist on a big fee, but I'd love to see him back in his beloved hoops.
It's a no from me Simon. We've put ourselves into a fantastic position to go up, we now need to think further ahead. We don't want to be going into every transfer window looking to bring in loads of players. This has been our downfall over the last two or three years. Even Onouha acknowledged this in the thread about him. Two players per window, three at a push and no one over thirty. We need squad stability and a bit of future proofing. Crouch offers none of this, we have enough short term solutions in the squad as it is.
I agree with the number of signings, but no over 30's??? If that was the case a while back we would not have signed Hill, Derry, Nelson etc. Look a what the individual player brings. Stats are more reliable than age.
I agree with Willy to an extent. He is a goodish player on or off the ball. If we can get him on a free (no chance) or a loan to the seasons end, might be worth a punt. I'm sure there will some caution in Jan as TF will probably wait to see what division we will be in next season before splashing serious cash.
We had a young team when we signed them, now we have more players over 30 than under 30. My reaction of being linked to another pending retiree. please log in to view this image
