Off Topic The SIR Kenny Dalglish Public House

Discussion in 'Liverpool' started by Sir_Red, Jan 28, 2011.

  1. I don't believe the protest marches did anything either. Simply put, H&G didn't give a **** about us fans or what we did. The only bit that may have work was the threatening letters to RBS telling them their Liverpool supporting customers would pull their money out if they continued to fund H&G but I have my doubts over that too.

    I was one of those marching in the rain.<grr>

    <laugh>

    But when SOS got the likes of Ricky Tomlinson and Co on board the campaign became much stronger, also the publicity the protest marches produced helped in H&G's downfall.

    Didn't and don't agree with the events at the SOS fundraiser at the Olympia in Liverpool but you aren't giving them credit for what they did in the big picture imo.

  4. I don't doubt it had a effect with others such as RBS, I just don't think G&H were bothered by it <ok>

    The marches made a difference simply because they woke all the other dozy reds fans up a bit. At the time many were happily wandering blindly into oblivion (and H&G would have driven the club to the very brink) with the promise of a shiny new stadium and a few cheery waves from the Main Stand. The cowboys might not have seemed the least bothered but that's because they are thick as pig ****....they should have been. The fans were bothered....then the sponsors were....then the banks were....then the courts were. Of course the fans couldn't have achieved anything without the pressure from others (which is a dark stain on English football as Cardiff and Hull fans will attest to right now) but would that pressure have ever come without it? Possibly...the banks needed to get money back and fast after the crash so they went after their biggest debtors....however even if the fans actions made not one jot of difference in the big scheme of things....it made us feel better. It was a show that yes we do care and no we won't be treated like **** or have our club destroyed without a fight.

    Do you remember someone gave a link to the Dallas newspaper on bbc606 and we absolutely overpowered the letters section under all their stories about Hicks.<laugh>

  13. I recall that. Despite not being overly keen on most actions, I followed most of it. I liked the thing in USA where they protested (I think) outside a bank H&G were approaching <laugh>

    That's what we mean though....the more direct action really did bother them in the end <laugh> The ****ing bellends got screwed in the end anyway <diva> That's all that matters now...thank ****.

    Feel for the likes of the Cardiff fans though.....what exactly will it take before the footballing authorities do something about taking "fit and proper" ownership seriously *cough* united go bust *cough*
