I think a 2 game ban is ridiculously excessive, especially when you had things like wigan's mcmanaman challenge last season which went completely unpunished. A warning/fine would have done. Surely a dangerous/violent tackle is worse than a retaliatory gesture :/
It'd be interesting to see a front 4 of: Rosicky---Ozil---Cazorla ---------Walcott------ But i think Giroud gives us a big positive defending set pieces and Chelsea seem to score set pieces against us.
Heat of the moment making a quick hand gesture at thousands of fans who are screaming in your face is hardly worthy of missing two games, it seems totally over the top for me. Suarez got a 1 game ban for the same thing last season. For me a slap on the wrist and fien should be more than enough.
I actually agree with this - I don't think it even warrants a slap on the wrist. If can't be worse than Rooney and Drogba swearing into microphones around the pitch. Bans should be for causing injury or cheating.
Agree...like flipping the bird actually did any harm...if anything, those he did it to were delighted to see how badly they got under his skin. Usually corporate PR decision..behaviour likely to bring the EPL "brand" into disrepute bollocks. some one will get a 3 match ban for a 2 footed or dangerous tackle in the coming weeks...only 1 match more than this ...stupid decision
I think the FA have to be seen to act on incidents like this, but a two match ban is way OTT. He should have just got a fine. The bigger issue here though is the total inconsistency met out by the FA. Be it not picking up on other similar incidents or giving out different punishments for the same crimes. A toon fan on here the other day reported that he, along with thousands of others witness the Southampton keeper after they scored, giving the toon fans behind the goal the middle finger on both hands whilst dancing a jig on his six yard line. It was seen by stewards who said that they would report it to the ref, but nothing was done. Although I must admit, it did make laugh reading that.
I think this could benefit you. I think Wilshire is a liability in most big games where they will attempt to pack out the midfield. His run-and-gun attitude is good for breaking down inferior teams but I think Arteta/Ramsey/Flamani/Ozil combo would be far more effective. If you are gonna play 4-5-1 then play Santi as well, though he seems a bit subdued with Ozil in the team. The ban is stupid. Suarez got a similar ban (1 Game) for the same offensive pretty much so why was Wilshire singled out? This is how we 'Pool fans feel whenever an 'Example' must be made.
In one sense, it's bad discipline, on another, it's good to see because he has real passion, hates losing, and that's what we need more in the modern game. Players who really feel it, sadly there's many players who don't, they ****ing lose a game, and they're on twitter in a few hours or the next day acting like nothings happened. I remember from a few years back, we had a terrible 3-1 home loss to United in the UCL, it was earth shattering one of our lowest points, and the next day Bendtner was out ****ing horse riding and posting pics! I mean seriously, what the ****? I'd be much happier with more players like Wilshere who do give a ****, than players who really don't and are just satisfied by grabbing that paycheque on Friday.
Remember the 8-2 against United? The players just casually walking off and chewing gum and having a nice chat with each other. Bunch of twats.
Even last year, Santos bloody swapping jersey's with RVP at halftime, and the Arsenal players were quite friendly and all smiley with RVP before the game, at least now they know he's a ****.
wrong suarez was banned in 2011 and since then the new rule about "retrospective action" was brought in under which Tom Ince was already punished for the same gesture and he received 2 games so Wilshire had no grounds to appeal and is lucky he didn't get an extra game for time wasting. the problem is that bans for violent conduct are now ridiculously small in comparison and need to be addressed
Personally i think he wass right to appeal the decision purely based on it being a stupid idea to make a player miss two games for making a hand gesture... ludicrous.
And City should have got a game behind closed doors for the behaviour of their fans. I thought there was a big campaign just recently to clean up the abuse from the terraces, or was that only when it was Manchester United that was getting abused?
Wilshere has tweeted today that the reason he gave the City fans the middle finger is because they were shouting abusive comments about his kids. I know footballers aren't supposed to react, but you can understand why. In no other profession are you expected to simply take the abuse, there are proper channels for recourse, but as a footballer you are expected to ignore some pretty vitriolic abuse. If somebody walked into my office and started screaming abuse about my daughter at me, I'd ****ing lump them on the spot.
