Decided to start posting again since the BBC 606 days. Been reading ever since but never got around to creating an account on here. Totally unacceptable treatment of Mackay after everything he has done for Cardiff. Although, the cynic in me says that perhaps they are now more likely than not to finish below us come the end of the season (of course they may well have done in any case). Can be a good thing.
Put this situation forward. What if they had overspent the agreed limit and he wanted someone he could trust getting involved (his sons mate). Mackay, knowing (at least) he had reached his spending limit then adds public pressure for 3 more signings. Mr Tan doesn't sound quite so bad in that scenario.
You love being devils advocate don't you carrabuh. I would say that Tan is responsible for the summer overspend, it his money he needn't of payed it. The result of having a transfer window is that every time it's open you need to look to improve the team to keep pace. There is also no need what so ever to conduct himself like this in the press. I would hope that when Malky leave his post, as it sound like a pretty foregone conclusion, that the LMA urges none of its members to take the position.
I know you're playing devil's advocate but still! If Mr Tan didn't want Malky spending the money why did he let him? And now rather than just firing him, he is trying to make the job as untenable as possible! [EDIT] Bath beat me to it!
Tan is a nutter. That being said, I don't think Mackay has really covered himself in glory here. He really has looked pretty cynical - he wants sympathy and a large pay-out - and his behaviour was as much designed to come to this impasse as Tan's.
Perhaps he didn't sign the cheques. 50 million pounds seems an awful lot for a two bit team just promoted.
I agree they spent an incredible amount for a newly promoted side and it hasn't really worked out for them. You can blame Malky for the players bought in but not the amount spent, surely that is down to the man with the cheque book. If he can't say no to Malky when he comes asking for another player then you have to wonder how he made all that money in the first place!
Like I said he may not have been signing the cheque. I'm not sure if he runs the club or is just an owner who entrusts to others. He attracts an awful lot of attention for someone who doesn't get involved however. I think his main motive is "I've spent all this money and what have I got for it".
I get that your saying he might not be the one actually "Writing the cheque" but it's his money. And as I said, he can blame Malky if he feels the players bought are not up to standard, but don't blame him for over spending. And rather than this whole undermining process just fire him! The fans would hate it, Tan would have to pay a load of compensation but it would stop this ridiculous, petty situation!
My Dad actually lives in Wales and my step brother is a Cardiff fan so I have a bit of a connection with them. Ninian Park is still my second most visited ground, behind Carrow Road.
Agreed - didn't their fans break the window of one of our fans coaches a few years ago when we were both in the championship???? PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE - No one suggest Mallky takes over at CR!!!!
