Maybe Lloris has just been unlucky in that he's playing behind a dysfunctional, ever changing, and frankly at times, shoddy defense.

That's definitely not helped but some of the mistakes and errors of judgement Hugo's made of late can't all be blamed on others around him.

Converted to using statistics, Boss? Actually I was always confused as to why he was not in your list of 'top four' players with Lennon and Huddlestone

I don't think we should be to hard on Lloris..... he suffered a terrific bang on the head the other day. :emoticon-0146-punch
A knock like that can sometimes effect people for life. We can see evidence of this on here, sometimes.

Haha! Don't be confused, I like my stats. <ok>

Huddlestone, Lennon, Gomes, crouch, Bassong, Defoe all top four players with the right man in charge :p

Or if they've got King, Kaboul, Bale, and Modric alongside them!

Yes, really, the only bloke making it up as he went along just left. Just how many more embarrassing defeats did you want to witness? Sherwood just insn't ready for a job of this magnitude, on that we agree.

The other thing you're failing to acknowledge is the off field reasons, you seem to think its only about matters on the pitch. It does not matter one jot about his plan. His man-management lack of skills alienated senior players (didn't that happen somewhere else!) and eventually his employer. The relationship was broke. That is why he is sacked, not because he didn't play this player or use that formation. The position became untenable with neither party willing to compromise and move forward together. Defending the merits of avb's masterplan is irrelevant now.

Bringing the best out of each other! That's why finishing top four isn't just about the top quality players like king and Modric, you need a balance and players like crouch played their part.

I was hoping it might knock some sense into him!, he's been dodgy for a while before that happened.

Agreed. His form has been indifferent since the start of this season and his distribution seems more erratic with each game. I attended a goalkeepers seminar recently and the lecturer highlighted Lloris in our preseason game against Monaco saying the near post goal he conceded was in his opinion, one of the poorest he had seen.

Of course there are mitigating circumstances, not least of which is the bang on the head, but he needs to step up several gears before he reaches the level a certain poster naively elevated him to.

I don't think his judgement of flight of the high ball is all that either. He's often leaning back under it, or reaching for it resulting in the flapping...or header!! wtf was that about....show a vid of that to your lecturer and see what he says! <laugh>

Good keeper to join in as sweeper keeper though, we won't worry about the rest of the art of keeping goal!

Mark Lawrenson's Prediction for Southampton v Tottenham Hotspur (Sunday, 13:30 GMT)

Southampton seem to have come out of their sticky patch but where do we start when we talk about Tottenham?

Spurs were awful against Liverpool last week and, defensively, they were all over the place. They looked like a bunch of strangers.

Andre Villas-Boas was sacked after that but, since then, they have lost at home to West Ham in the Capital One Cup, which surprised me because I was expecting to see a reaction from the Tottenham players.

It will be interesting to see the team that stand-in Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood picks to go to the St Mary's Stadium but, whoever plays, they need to be on their game because this Saints team is very useful.

If Spurs are at sixes and sevens at the back again, then I am looking at a Southampton win.

What next for Spurs? Well, they are still a very attractive club for whoever comes in next but they will have to organise a squad that contains a lot of similar players.

That means the new manager should make up his mind about his best team and decide how he wants them to play.

If three or four of those summer signings end up being nowhere near the team, then that is just the way it is.

Lawro's prediction: Southampton 2-1 Tottenham Hotspur

    What went wrong for AVB?

What went wrong for Andre Villas-Boas? Well, Spurs signed too many players in the summer. They only sold one - albeit that was Gareth Bale - so there was no real need to bring in seven, which they did.

It is not as if they needed to completely rebuild their team. Instead, they almost look as if they were doing deals for the sake of deals. The consequences of that are that there does not seem to be a core of a side developing from the players that arrived.

I'm hearing that Sandro will be available for selection on Sunday.

    Great news if true!

Great news if hes fit! But I fear he will pick up another long term injury, he doesn't seem to get a break as this is the third (or second) time this season hes had a short term injury.

I'd leave Sandro out. Play Dawson and Chiriches at the back with Capoue and Dembele in front of them.
Give our resident beast a chance to recover.

    Sherwood's interview today:

"I know all about the football club, ya know. I played here, It's my club ya know, and I know what the supporters want".

Yesterday, I mentioned how i thought his decisions would be based on what the fans are demanding. It looks like that was a good call. This is probably why we saw 442 on Wednesday, as many fans have been asking for it. - Adebayor was also included, so clearly he's trying to please everyone associated with Spurs, whether that's players, fans, staff, whoever.
Sundays decisions will be full of similar ones, IMO. The "signings" will start the game i reckon. Sherwood would love the job so he's going to get the fans onside by saying/doing all the "right" things which basically boils down to "arse licking".

It's not going to wash with me, I'm afraid. It stinks of weakness.

Surely our international players didn't join spurs to play for Tim Sherwood??!! No offense to the guy, and I know I sound harsh, but he's way out of his depth. He's never had this sort of responsibility and has no experience. If he's given the job permanently, once again, we could be saying goodbye to more players come the end of the season. I for one, do not want to lose the likes of Sandro and Vertonghen, as two examples.

i think we'd be writing our season off if this was the case, and creating an even bigger knock on affect, come the summer.

I agree with that. Also Capoue looked very good in midfield prior to his injury.
