A few years back when we played a friendly against Bayern Munich me and my Dad were sat in the Itchen and about a min after Kick Off to guys came and sat next to me. To me they were just ordinary men but my I found out it was actually Peter Rodrigues and Nick Holmes. My Dad gave me a programme to ask for their autographs; when signing it my Dad said to them 'He doesn't know who you guys are, BUT I DO!' Met Harry Redknapp a couple of times (as Saints and Pompey manager) weirdly nice bloke; despite hating him immensely. And have seen Gordan Strachan at Paulton's Park with family (this was two years ago this summer) Small world!
My best mate Shagged Ryan smiths sister for a while. Which resulted in me getting Ryan smiths shirt which he wore when we got thrashed 3-0 by united in the fa cup. I still wear it sometimes, People look at me and wonder why i have Smith 37 on the back.
might be, because when i looked him up he hadn't stayed for long. You can see why I'm no good at gossip..can remember everything except dates, names and places.
Who are you st george!? I know a lad in the u16s for saints who's a cb, are we talking about "Hustler" here?
I used to play against Paul Ridout and Ian Baird as a nipper, and played against Dave Peach and Charlie George after they finished as pro's and used to turn out for a Sunday League side occasionally. Also played against Big Lawries nipper, when Lawrie came to watch the match.I took him out, which started a bit of a scuffle, and Lawrie told his nipper to get up and stop whinging. Have met loads of ex Saints players at football presentations both back in the 70's and 80's for me,then in the last 5 years or so with my kids. Also i now live a few doors away from Jo Tessem.
It may have been Jimmy Gabriel, who scored the first Saints goal I ever saw at the Dell, hence my pseudonym. I used to work part-time in a petrol station in the days before it was all self-service and once filled Lawrie McMenemy's Rover with petrol (obviously). Have seen, at different times, Rahdi Jaidi, Lloyd James and Bradley Wright-Phillips in the Co-op in the High Street near Town Quay. There was a do some years ago at the old Top Rank for the launch of something or other. It was when Chris Nicholl was manager. Most of the first team squad were there and the only thing I can remember was that Peter Shilton was somewhat tipsy!!! That is all.
if you go to town on a wednesday afternoon, you are guaranteed to see saints lads. they get the afternoon off and always love a bit of shopping!
My dad knows Alan Smith (Arsenal and the commentator one for Sky).......and we have a friend who does horse racing with fergie....and my brother met RL in West quay......but I have only met footballers at the ground one of the nicest guys being Jamie Redknapp.....I went to Sutton pre season where you can walk about in the clubhouse and stand out the changing rooms so meet alot of players then.....all the players headed straight into the club bar which was good
Thanks Gabriels Boots, but I think the chap I met was Ken Birch. i remember it was an ordinary name..I'm sure I would have remembered the name Jimmy Gabriel. My brother was at school with Bobby Stokes and played in school team with him.
I met Bobby Stokes when I was about 18; I asked him what it was like to score the winning goal in a cup final and he said he "shinned" it....LOL. I tell every manure fan I meet about that.
I have met little Alex pretty much every week last season!!! Really down to earth and nice lad ... has time to talk to fans
Yes Have known a few over the years. Terry Paine played against him as a nipper, Ron Davis, played with him and against him in charity matches. Cliff Huxford played with and against as school boys. Met and talked to the great Sir Stanley Mathews, and Tom Finney. Until a few years ago lived opposite Brian O'neil. Have met on numerous occasions Dave Jones, Gordon Strachen, Lawrie Mac and the late great Alan Ball. Of the current crop I don't think it would be wise for me to disclose who or what I know, which mostly is the same as you guys to be honest.
Not a Saints fan... But used to work down Leisure World and used to get a lot of the players down there; Kevin Davies, James Beattie, Claus Lundekvam to name a few, and Le Tis was down there a lot sipping his Malibu and cokes - he even had is Post-Testimonial party there with quite a few big names there! Also saw him in (I think) Caspians up Bedford Place, just leaving with a kebab in one hand and a tray of chips in the other! Also, had Claus come round to a mate's house party, where he duly offered me an arm-wrestling match - where he susequently destroyed me!
I used to deliver Mick Channon newspapers, had a beer with Wayne Bridge a couple of times, talk to Matt Le Tiss once a week when walking my dog and worked with Alan Shearers wife who picked her up every night.
