http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/25418135 Could be interesting, and I would think a very real possibility.
Well that would end in chaos! I do feel very sorry for those players on a 5 year contract £200,000 a week, as Ronaldo once said they are basically slaves.
The lawyers will just take a larger slice of the pie. The contracts will just end up stipulating that they are required to give 3 years notice or pay extortionate get out fee's if part way through their contract. And if offered enough to sign in the first place the players will grabingly sign anything that makes their agent and them a good wedge. Bah!
That won't give the lawyers any more money. The lawyers will be getting exactly the same amount for a contract now, it will just have slightly different terms. You hit the nail on the head with the agent's though - these are the guys set to make (even) more money
Would this not also have the effect of allowing the rich clubs to create and even tighter hold of the top as they could offer vast wages to good players and their current clubs could do nothing to stop it. Our current system isn't pretty and is skued towards those with the most money but it not close to as bad as it could be.
This is what I was thinking. An upper championship/lower Prem player on £20k a week, with 2 years to run on a contract would cost only a little over £2m to buy. Most of our players would easily command greater fees than that, and it completely rules out clubs in lower leagues making big money off star players, like Huddersfield did off Rhodes. Under the current system teams are compensated for youths, but would that change too? Young players are on low wages, so making them very easy to buy out of contract, making academies unsustainable/pointless.
