He could well go and break some league records. Top scorer in the league is what, 31goals? Suarez is well on course to smash that
all good to hear, i will be satisfied he is going nowhere on Feb 1st lol, until then everything will be fecking crossed.
Let's be honest the WC is no problem, he'll be playing whether he misses the rest of the season or not, as long as he's fit. As for January.. Who knows, football doesn't work out how we expect it to, I think it is more likely he'll stay than go, but I think with the form he's in we cannot rule out anything. Hopefully we won't come out to badly against City and Chelsea which will give him more reason to stay.
Why would the club accept it? We fought tooth(!) and nail to keep him in the Summer, and our chances of top four would seem to be dependent on him. He's worth far more to the club than £60m at the moment.
for me this story is all about sending messages. Nothing more. Our own history suggests (and for tobes his own club too) that until a player signs something there is no deal there is no contract. Therefore saying this out loud, probably by the sound of it as a leak, is LFCs way of saying bid high if you are bidding. I think if suarez gets 40 goals and he stars in the WC then 60mil is not going to happen. We can name our price. We must sign his replacement in may or june then sit back and basically get the fee from Real. Right now he should be an 80mil player cos thats simply the going rate. Also its highly unlikely anyone will bid in january and arsenal will be told to f off again for sure. theres no change to the situation, we can;t replace him in january so we won't sell. He knows that, we know it and arsenal know it. If real have the cash to turn up and pay 80mil in january thats different. This story is nothing more than the early posturing in a long transfer saga that will play out next august.
well i can think of a few, they was willing to accept £45 mill odd until the Arsenal piss take with the £1 extra, and we would all be saying right now they got a bargain as he is worth more than that now. there is always a dif to what a player is worth or you value them at to being offered hard cash, £60 mill is a lot. does he still have disciplinary problems? so far could say no,lucky its world cup year i guess, but clubs will be wary of that and is £60 mill the best we are likely to get offered? and will the club want to turn it down. player sweetener plus cash for him, lure of CL. i hope none of that is true obviously, but we are fans, not business men who put money before anything else, and they could use the excuse reinvest ****e.
Maybe its an attempt to help persuade potential signings to join? Ie Suarez will be staying here so come and play alongside him!
that is another good reason to leak it.. potential january signings see a side capable of top 4 or winning it (if we do well) and the worlds form player signing up. In others words people look and see a club "on the up" not one stagnating. this is what after all got (ha ha) spurs thier players this summer and the likes of sigurdsson... the lesson should be to be VERY careful of who we buy as I hope the pool of candidates inflates with our pick up.
Where is the evidence that LFC were ever willing to accept £45 million? If the £80+million fees are realistic then he's gone well beyond his record limiting his likely fee.
oh come on ffs, he at the time had disciplinary problems and probably every fecker on here was trying to or hoping to get rid of him at the time, i saw a lot of £45 mill quoted we would prob have accepted. the only thing that went in our favour was Wenger taking the piss with the £1 bid, that probably saved us from the club making one of the biggest **** ups we would have made in a long time in letting go of a quality player, also Real was distracted by chasing Bale which helped. IF Arsenal hadn't taken the piss with their bidding, i reckon he would have been an Arsenal player now, thank **** he isnt, but at the time not many had that opinion did they.
GOtta agree with Dave here, we were pretty damn emphatic in the summer about not letting him go for cheap, let alone to an immediate rival like Arsenal. Gonna have to be something big 80+ a player type of deal that I can only see clubs like Madrid, PSG, Monaco, City, who have that kind of serious dosh.
If we sold to Arsenal, then I think we would have sold for £50m+. The club maintained they wanted a record transfer fee. I think the £1 just finished any sort of deal that could have happened. I think we would have sold for £40-45m to Real Madrid considering they are obviously outside of our league.
Not me. There was a lot of talk about how much we (the club, not the fans) would take for him, but I've yet to see any concrete evidence for it. I'm not saying you're wrong, because clearly I don't know the truth either. All I'm saying is it's an assumption based on a lot of rumour going around at the time, nothing more. The club refused to let him go because we couldn't replace him in time- who would we replace him with in January? His value, at the moment, is higher to us than his mere market value, and I just don't see them letting him go. The owners are, as you say, businessmen- if they are any use at it, they will understand the value of a long term financial strategy over an immediate cash gain. Getting into the CL and attracting other high-quality players will be better business in the long term.
