Before this season began, I don't think that you'd of found many LFC fans that would confidently predict a top four finish. I, for one was adamant that we didn't have anything like the squad depth to challenge in a sustained manner.

Yet, here we are 2nd in the table and may well be top for Christmas if results go our way this weekend.

imo, we are still one more injury away from disaster; if Suarez, Coutinho, Henderson or even, arguably, either of the FB's pick up a knock, we may well struggle considering our current injuries. In fact, the only position that we have adequate cover for is at CB.

That said, we are where we are....even if overachieving, if you agree with my first sentence? But why? One factor that I didn't pay too much attention too at the beginning of the season was the lack of European football. Add to that the early exit of the league cup at the hands of Utd and our players have been able to rest adequately between games....while our opponents have not. Of course, i was aware of this...but I think that I underestimated the positive impact of it for us.

The more the season unfolds, the more I want the English teams to progress in the European competitions (United apart of course), stretching their squads appears to create a level playing field for us....I hate to say it, but i'd also welcome an early exit from the FA cup IF it meant that we avoid more injuries and stay fresh for the second half of the season.

Add a couple of quality signings that can hit the ground running and who knows!

  2. We'll see over the next couple of months since European football is now on a break until February <ok>

Yes, but our players will always have played fewer matches which will mean that we enter a very busy period with a group of players who have played far less than our rivals and are much fresher for it. Fingers crossed!

I breifly wondered this last night as i saw chelsea and city play but i feel that their cup escapades are on the wrong week for us. We play cardiff and i think the benefit to us if any will have been negated by the time we play.

The main way it will benefit is if they drop points this weekend.

on injuries... well.... If suarez got injured we'd struggle anyway... coutinho too IMO...

I think the main impact of "resting" has been seen not with suarez but with gerrard. each and every f'n international week he's come back and we've played AWFUL. its time now if the lads show thier mettle to say to gerrard that if he wants to f about in meaningless friendlies that he can sit out the next league game as he's more of a hinderance than anything.

The point must be that our squad is not small but is weak as we've numbers but none we trust especially not moses for example.

i got the award for the Gerrard out campaign <steam>

but yes agree is time to look at him not being a guaranteed starter for us, or only play 60 mins max.

Gerrard isn't that big of a loss to us IMO.

As we have seen throughout the season, the attackers - Suarez, Coutinho and Sturridge have been the ones carrying us. For us to win matches or at least score goals, then 2 of those 3 need to play.
