Joey Barton opens up about how he was betrayed at QPR

December 17 2013 By Mike Gonçalves

Joey Barton tends to find himself in the media quite often, and when it does happen, it is normally not for a good reason. From his inability to think before he speaks, to his on and off the pitch antics, the English midfielder opened up in an interview.

His antics against Manchester City left his footballing career in England in the balance, but Barton believes that he is not the only one to blame.

"I put across in my mitigation that the referee, Mike Dean, had told me after the game that if he had seen Tevez do what he did, he would have sent him off because he had punched me in the side of the head," said Barton. "But he never saw it, and the linesman only saw my reaction."

After all the chaos, QPR shipped Barton off to Marseille on loan, but he is now back at QPR, helping them make their way back to the Premier League.

"There were people within the club - and they know who they are, who embraced me after the sending off. And then when the media drum starting beating and the media started demanding that I be held accountable for my actions, they changed tack. I felt they were using it as a way to get me off the wage bill, and to get people they wanted in at the football club."

"I wanted out of the club and I wanted out of the atmosphere I was in. It wasn't for me. I had been loved everywhere I had been, and this was the first time I wasn't."

"The owners will testify to this. I text them straight after the ban, as I was coming out of Wembley. I was deeply unhappy at the football club in lots of ways. But the reaction of the owners is the reason I am still here today

One day, Joey Barton will be gone. In fact I'm sure a struggling prem team might be interested in his brand of running around mistiming tackles and hitting 50% of his passes accurately, hopefully in January. Then they can have the benefit of the ceaseless river of crap which issues from his mouth and keyboard.

That was refreshing, I haven't had a go for a while.

This nasty, vindictive, untalented, attention seeking, morale destroying, self-centered, lying piece of an excuse for humanity is the reason I have so little affection with my club as it is run currently.
Taking him back and not off loading smacked of little moral back bone and no class whatsoever - I reluctantly write this as I do not want to waste time on negativity and worthless entities.

TBH I just wish he would stop talking to the press/bloggers/twitters and anyone else......

For the time being play your football and help us beat Leicester, Forest & Watford.......It is likely that he may well go in January......

He has played well for us this season...a very solid performance, no histrionics...just what we need...and a hell of a free kick re Reading
    No complaints.....

In his blog he salutes the owners....and suspect some of the people he was slagging off were Sparkies lot....so only saying what we know already...nasty group there...in the "Barton-of-old" mould.

Give him due...he is playing well for us at the moment....and if he continues for the season!!!

    Ah, a sensible reaction.

I too think that this was a dig at Hughes and his cronies and more of a salute to our owners and HR.

Even if he is miss-timing tackles and only hitting 50% of passes accurately he is doing better that many of the others out there!

Whatever anyone thinks about Barton's previous misdemeanours, his form this season has been outstanding. He has shown great restraint under provocation and he has been a leader on the pitch. Long may it continue.

50% passing accuracy is not true. He has one of the best percents in all four divisions. Anyone got any stats?

    Ever heard of poetic license?

Anyway I bet 99% of that 81.5% is those lovely 3 yard sideways and backwards passes to Dunne and Hill. I'd be interested to see the breakdown of stats on that.

Yes he has made a bit of a cock of him self in the past but the fact is at the moment he has come in to a group of players who have the same mentality as him and he is enjoying his football and we are reaping the benefits from it.

Had he been here last season do you think it would have been as bad? I'm not saying he would have sorted the problems, but it would have made us see who was putting it in and not sooner.

Ha! I thought you were joking, but looked it up. So that's it Karl Henry is a better player than Barton, 10.1% better to be precise. Lovely, lovely statistics.

Do not care if they are the 3 yarders Stan... 81% and if everyone else does the same (and Henry does 90%)...we will not lose many matches

Please refrain from issuing a given for everyon'e comments.
Firstly - Barton's "previous" are not misdemeanours - Both from his personal life or proffesional life.
Secondly - It is you thant thinks he has been outstanding - Isay to you Sir that your bar needs to be raised.
Thirdly - Has shown great restraint? - Why is he a loose canoon liable at any moment to let you down? - Otherwise, why so much credit for this?
    He's a leader? - Oh come on

Please, say what you want, please think what you want - You like him - Great, You appreciate that he is a loveable rogue that has turned a new leaf - Great. Do I feel that even supporting this person would compromise my personal morals - You betcha!!
Am I questioning your and those that can see the different Joey cause he's our Joey - No, you do what you want.
