I didn't necessarily mean Carroll himself, but players of that kind of type and ability. Besides, his heel injury is clearly a serious ailment, it's not like someone stood on him. I still think the board could have shown some ambition and tried to sign him anyway, we're a Premier League club, why can't we spend like one? [I really don't like the corner I'm backing myself/being backed into, it's scary here]
Brazil won a mickey mouse tournament. European and world champions = Spain. How did they do it? By playing a fast short passing game. Just you wait until the world cup, passing teams conserving their energy will team these long ball merchants apart. With CH in charge we just sit there waiting for these top prem players to ping one in from 20 yards. Ever heard the saying attack is the best for of defence? CH hasn't for him apparently defence is the best form of attack, and it doesn't work. Against any half decent sides we can't get a shot in let alone score for love nor money.
Everyone raves about Lambert, but his 'fly by the seat of your pants' football is all very well for a while, but eventually it gets found out. He took us up two divisions on momentum only, but once the momentum faded there was nothing at all underneath. He's hardly pulled up any trees at Villa, has he? Compare that with Hughton, who is slowly, painstakingly building a real team which belongs at this level. Nobody patronises us any more, or argues that we are out of our depth, because they can see that we have someone at the helm who knows what they are doing rather than someone who relies on a wing and a prayer.
I think you can actually go to prison for liking or writing complimentary comments about Andy Carroll. In Liverpool you are forced to work as slave labour, whilst the unemployed are paid to throw rotten fruit at you, it's not pretty.
CH seems to have an aversion to smaller technical players. Instead opting for 6 ft plus lumps who you can hoof a ball up to. We need to sign small non English technical players. But most definitely not players from Africa! They are rubbish
That sounds like an average day in Liverpool from what I've seen though? Clearly everyone in that learned city agree with me.
Whilst African players are mostly technically poor, they are very good at the elements the crowds like and can run with power. England rules the World
According to the French mathematician and philosopher Pascal, a non-believer can become a believer simply by consistently acting as if he/she believed. My advice to all who are actually pro-Hughton is (a) to follow my example and refuse to contribute to this thread; and (b) encourage all those who are actually anti-Hughton to contribute as much as they can. Before long we will have complete pro-Hughton harmony on here and can discuss football topics productively and amicably.
I don't think Pascal would really understand the complexity of discussion here. He's more into trangles and other simplistic shapes.
1) Under CH we sit off our opposition and allow them to play passes and keep possession. This was OK against Swansea where there efforts bought no fruit but was horrible to watch against Man City, Spurs and Liverpool. In addition to this we somehow still get caught on the counter-attack. 2) CH does not play enough pacey players in the team 3) CH substitutions are utterly bemusing, non existent or too late to have any effect 4) In interviews he often doesn't come across as being in control, hard to explain what I mean 5) CH let our squad get skeletally thin (3 centre halves) leaving us vulnerable to injuries and forcing us to play certain players regardless of their form 6) We seem to have bad luck under Hughton
I think either I, or some people, have misunderstood the point of this thread. I don't think the point was to actively lie or state the opposite of your opinion, I believe the point was to exclude the negatives (if you're an Outer) or the positives (if you're an Inner). Correct me if I'm wrong? I.e. the avid won't be able to contribute because they will have nothing contrary to say. So saying we play a long ball game is just simply false (we play many fewer long balls than we did under Lambert and I believe we were in the bottom half for this last season). FAOD I know this is a partly humorous thread, so feel free to continue with the jokes! I just think there are some interesting points raised by those playing by this rule
I'm not sure Pascal's wager is relevant here. He is talking about the situation where either God exists or does not exist. But we are asking whether CH is the best manager available for Norwich. It's more like a situation where you have a choice of Gods and have to pick one of them. And Pascal's wager couldn't help us there.
Maybe we should start an 'exhausted' thread for people who are tired of all the discussion about CH??
The Wager itself is one thing, Pascal's psychological theory about the efficacy of behaving "as if" as a strategy for altering one's beliefs is another. It's the latter that is relevant here. If we do as I advocate, we will usefully contribute to psychological research by putting the theory to the test. Mind you, I wouldn't expect 100% success: some of us are clearly unshakeable by any normal process, logical or psychological.
As I'm sure you know, there is quite a lot of psychological research to suggest that if we physically smile, we cheer ourselves up. However, I don't know of any research which proves that, if we believe CH is the new SAF, he suddenly starts speaking in an impenetrable Glaswegian accent and gets a bulbous purple nose.
