It also generally forgotten if a manager is sacked his back room staff usually get sacked as well. Having a successful manager and team means other clubs will poach them if they have the funds. Surely the compensation to the club helps dilute the ill-feeling, after all the manage merry-go-round is an integral part of the business.

He built on what Flynn started and did very well for us. If you like, he cemented our style then developed it.

I don't blame him for leaving but the circumstances sucked!! He hid himself away (in obvious contact with Whelan) and couldn't even be contacted by phone. By the time he did decide to let us know, we only had a small window to find a replacement. We found Sousa but our preparation for the season was totally disrupted.

Because of this our early results were drastic and we had to play catch up, big time. Sousa nearly pulled it off but we missed the play-offs by a whisker. Had Judas given us more time to prepare, we would probably have made the play-offs and possibly been promoted earlier. Who knows?

The thing is, he had professed undying loyalty to the Swans insisting that he would have to be kicked out of the job before he would leave. When he made that commitment, Whelan and Wigan were alive and well so there was always the prospect that they might come in for him at some time. Nevertheless, Martinez still made that vow to the club and the fans. As I said, it sucked.

is this another stealth wum ??

No Brenden left with everyones best wishes but soured it a little when he used his inside knowledge to activate Joe Allens release clause . Sousa is probably the forgotten man but did just as much to put us in the premier league than roberto did, a fact some wont like but very true, robertos foundation was built on sand, sousa sorted that out and brenden balanced it nicely.

No, it's a genuine question. I recall some negative posts when Rodgers left so wanted to know if the same sentiments applied. With regard to Sousa, I know very little of his time with you guys but thought I'd ask the question as he was the bridge between Martinez and Rodgers.

    This ^^^^

There's hardy a manager around that doesn't try to take players with him. Rodgers was worse for me because he went against the spirit if the agreement we had with him if not the letter of it and came in for Allen. Luckily that worked out well for us.

Martinez was clearly in on-going contact with Whelen according to the latter and was engineering a move for some time so as ivor said that left a bad taste but I am so over him now and wish him well. We have moved on and so as he. He was the most influential manager of our current success, establishing a link with Spanish clubs that continues to this day, as well as being the main architect of our style of play, though as others have said, foundations in that regard had already been laid. But he built the walls of the house for me and is arguably the best manager we've ever had - apart from Rodgers and Laudrup maybe - certainly top three. We're lucky that every manager in recent times has added something to the mix.

The way some fans go on about him now is typical I'm sad to say. NJ's comment "Brenden left with everyones best wishes" is not my recollection at all. Some here were baying for blood before the Allen episode. Dragon was highly critical and ironically so was Norway. As Vetch said some of our lot won't leave a name on Laudrup either - in fact at least one of our number has already started.

Back on the topic for the Everton fans Martinez professed undying love for us and said he'd have to be forced out of Swansea. About 6 months later he was off to Wigwam thus proving himself to be a slimy lying bastard. Rodgers was full of blarney but never said he'd have to be forced out. He was ok with me until he broke an agreement in place and came back to sign Joe Allen. Sousa and Laudrup both just haven't said anything at all. When Sousa went most weren't disappointed because we played defensivley under him and he had never professed undying love for the club. When Laudrup goes I will just say thanks and wish him well because like Sousa he isn't full of **** either.

By the way everyone just ignore these stealth wums they aren't worth a toss and don't have a pop at other Jacks either just because they got a different opinion from yours

Martinez was the best thing that could have happened to the swans. We struck gold that day as we were skint and could not afford to employ an experienced manager and as we knew that martinez wanted to get his foot on the management ladder then fair play to the chairman he took a gamble on him not that he had to many choices in the pot anyway. The rest is history and we continued to rise as we learned to play continental football.....He is no judas by any shape or form so dont take any notice of the sour grape brigade as they are way off the mark on why he left to a higher division club at the time. .He gave the club the option of back me with money for the players he wanted or he had little choice than to take up a better offer at wigan,,,We let him down and not the other way around as he had reached the limit of how far we can go with the players we had. So he was not a judas or anything else you want to call him as he fulfilled everything possible he could do and decided that without backing he could do no more and he left....It was the right thing to do if you knew the circumstances at the time...You can say with absolute certainty that he will give 100% and joining everton was the best thing that could happen to martinez and justifiably and well deserved...

Disagree with just about everything there Martinez **** on us from a great height. First chance we had 4,500 of our fans went to Wigwam on a cold Tuesday night to let him know exactly what we thought of him. Time is a great healer and I can't be bothered to berate him anymore but I still think he's a slimy lying bastard. Saying that I do think he's a better manager than Rodgers

Bovi I agree with all that. One thing Martinez and Blarney Boy taught us Swansea fans, never believe a single word a manager says.

A ruthlessly ambitious, reasonably capable. politically astute manager who would stab his own mother in the back if he thought it would work to his advantage. Whilst the start he has had at Everton has been surprisingly successful, it is worth noting that much of it has been based on the form of players he inherited (Barclay, Coleman, Pienaar) and some that he's borrowed (Lukaku, Delofeu). Time will tell if he is as capable of replacing sold players and maintaining competitiveness as Moyes was. I have my doubts.

Did a good job building on the foundations left to him by Flynn and Jackett. The latter in particular he owes a big debt to despite continually working to undermine him whilst he was club captain.

Some have short memories on here...<laugh>and they obviously never knew him like they thought they did and can now only guess why he left....If they really knew the facts then they would not show as much sour grapes as they do..<ok>

He left because Dave Whelan offered him a substantial amount of money to. He claimed he left because Huw Jenkins wouldn't back him. Most people accept the first. A few borderline insane loyalists without the mental capacity for logic keep claiming the other.
