Hopefully we've learnt from the Hull City/Tigers/Cats/AFC/Dons/Franchise that we need to earn the right to win, we go out with the right attitude and then we should be OK. Anything less could spell trouble!
I saw that too and thought it was an odd coincidence. Hopefully we're better at footie than all that brainy stuff.
How's it going mate? Any light? This is the ****test time of year there is from a recruitment perspective. January on and it'll be motoring for you Jonesey
Alright mate So far I've manged ONE interview and was told the following day that I didn't get the job as they'd found someone else who was "a better fit" ,whatever the **** that means. I think it means I was considered too old for the job. They also asked me during the interview how old I was, which I believe is totally against the law now in this country, so I've been advised to sue them. An employment lawyer friend of my wife (she's a family lawyer) said he did one of these recently and the 'victim' was awarded £5,000 in damages.
"So far I've manged ONE interview and was told the following day that I didn't get the job as they'd found someone else who was "a better fit" ,whatever the **** that means." from experience that sounds like someone internal got the job, but they have to by law offer it outside, even though its bollocks, how do you prove it. also if true about age, sue them ****s, don't know how old you are Jonsey (shouldn't be relevant), but the ****ing government cant higher the pension age for retirement but still make it impossible for people to get back into work. also if this helps for next time, when they say, but someone younger could be here for years to come, turn round and say that may well be true but to my knowledge they are less likely to be as committed to the company as i am as they will be looking to further their career elsewhere, so take a chance on me you batards. may have to word it better than that, but from experience i have seen that many times with youngsters, they use the company for training etc get all the experience they can then **** off someone else. well might work lol
I did explain to them that there was absolutely zero chance of me accepting the job and then announcing my retirement in a few years time, because I've got no ****ing pension! I'm 59 but everyone says I don't look older than about late 40's. And I certainly don't act it
They simply can't ask that question & you'd be perfectly entitled to take issue with it legally. Proving it happened might be tough though, especially if it was an interview panel as opposed to a 1 to 1. Try shortening your CV, only give the last 10 - 15 years work history & if asked at interview, say that it was all you felt was relevant to your application. As you might find that people are calculating your age via your work history, hence the low number of interviews mate.
1. It means the other candidate had a bigger cock to thrust into the HR slag. (Joke) 2. (Serious). They can't ask you your age, and you may be within your rights to sue (you may remember I have a mate who's an employment law judge - deliberates on industrial tribunals). I can ask him for you.
Thanks lads. I wouldn't normally pursue this sort of thing, but £5K will tide us over well into the new year. There were 2 people conducting the interview, the Finance Director and the incumbent Finance Manager, who's role is/was up for grabs as he IS retiring. Like you say, proving what she asked me about my age might be tricky - I should have had my sound recording app going on my phone
