Would a footballer be allowed on the field if he'd had as much to drink as some of the darts and snooker players?

If you don't need to change your shoes in order to take part, then it's not a sport.

Darts is therefore not a sport

So, on the basis that you changed your shoes for sex - does that construe a sport - or are you trying to say you play darts whilst shagging - sorry, confused now??

What I meant was that the girls I knocked around with had been pricked more times than a second hand dart board, therefore were considered rather sporty. The shoes were purely coincidental,...<laugh>

I would regard darts as a competition, rather than sport. I would regard sport as requiring a high level of athletic performance. It can be very hard to differentiate between the two and everyone would have a different viewpoint.

For example I would regard the following as Sport

Football, Rugby, Athletics, Cycling, Hockey, etc

    and the following as Competition

Darts, Snooker, Golf, Formula 1 etc

No one will ever agree on a definitive list though <laugh> ...cue the verbals from the F1 enthusiasts <laugh>

Yay! Snobs win!!! To those 13 gallant squires and squiresses who voted to maintain sporting integrity, jolly good show! Hoorah!

To the 11 "people" who voted darts as a worthy sport, you're all dead to me <nahnah>

This poll is like a timeless test match. In this instance it will only end when every person in the world has voted. So like your bedroom escapades, your celebrations are premature.

The essence of sport is not competition. Mountain climbing is a sport. Skiing is a sport even when it isn't a race. The essence of a sport is athleticism.

There is no doubt that darts requires skill and dexterity acquired through practice. Something more than that must be needed to be a sport, though, or oil painting would qualify.

Darts is a competitive pastime requiring physical skill, like shove ha'penny. I would classify snooker the same way.

This is not to insult darts, or shove ha'penny. Sport isn't the king of recreations which sneers down on all other categories. It is simply one type of recreation.

With the poll and what have you, I thought I'd be a sporty tonight.

So got myself sat in front of the old telly - no real sporty events like Skiing or Mountain climbing to get into, so I'm stuck with either the Darts World Championship or some game of football between The Unwashed and Chelsea.

Strangely enough the Darts won hands down and with MVG on soon it should liven things up a bit (and in front of a packed house at the Ally Pally).

Flicked over the channel earlier to see how the Unwashed were doing, but, not much by the look of it.

I couldn't help but notice all those empty seats at the Stadium of S****.
Pink ones, red ones and white ones too, so many to choose from.

It makes you want to ask the question where they get these empty seats from.

Back to Real Sport with MVG at the Darts WC.

My mantra is: if you play it in a pub, it's not a sport. It's a game.

Therefore, snooker, pool, and darts are games.
