  1. All it demonstrates is that the 0-5 flattered 'Pool. Had we had a decent manager in charge we would have won that match.

Liverpool played well and Spurs were dreadful but the referee`s pro Liverpool performance also contributed to this result, Spurs were given nothing all afternoon.... 2 penalties denied, every 50/50 foul went the Mousers way, countless free kicks given against and not received and the referees decision making in key moments gave Pool momentum, which they took full advantage of.

The first goal of a game is crucial and can change the dynamic of a game, had Spurs been given a penalty for a blatant shirt pull at 0-0 it may have been a different match, but once Pool scored there only looked like one winner, and the referees decision making did not make it easy for Spurs to wrestle momentum back.

That does not excuse the awful display from Spurs though and any team relying on the slow and clumsy Dawson, the inept Naughton and a CM playing at the back was asking for trouble against quick footed attackers.

This result may well have done Spurs a favour, AVB has now gone, and the new manager will arrive at a team still very much with plenty to play for, still in the mix for top 4, in the QF of the league cup and still in the EL and FA cup.

The season has a long way to go, a couple of heavy defeats doesnt make a season, onwards and upwards with a new manager I say.

your referee complaints are nonsense but you make an interesting point about having plenty to play for, has a better manager ever been sacked before (for footballing reasons, not like a scandal or something)? AVB is the best spurs manager since 1899 and his team is still in all competitions.

No, Vertonghen is one of our back four. And he didn't play. Nor did Danny Rose. Instead we played a midfielder at centre back, and our second-choice right back at left back.

That's not our first choice back four. It can be argued that Dawson only plays because Kaboul's perpetually injured, too.

No Kaboul, Vertonghen, Rose or Chiriches
    Sandro playing with an injury
Dembele playing when he needed a rest

The squad was depleted, and that's before AVB picked an illogical starting xi from the players he had left. Any mature adult can see we shot ourselves in the foot (with an AK47) before kick-off, and that's before factoring in the whispers of AVB losing the dressing room several weeks ago.

No Sturridge, Gerrard, Enrique or Cissokho.
Henderson playing with an injury yet ran rings around your midfield and we played our 4th choice RB at LB.
Still won 5-0 and that scoreline flattered you.

sorry but after a 100m spending spree you should have a squad to handle such absentees.

we have had more than our fair share tbh, well and truly thumped at home. just man up and admit you lost to a better and equally as depleted side by some margin. :D

A defence cobbled together from players we had
A central midfield that should have been rested

More than anything else, AVB's tactic of playing a high line is what killed us.
Dawson is too slow to play in a high line (just like Terry was at Chelsea)
Naughton simply should not be in the team as he is woeful wherever he plays (his back passing usually presents opportunities to opponents, his marking and positioning are both woeful)
We couldn't guarantee protection due to Sandro's injury, Dembele being unfit, Paulinho playing further forward, and Capoue as a makeshift defender

With a makeshift defence we should not have played a high line, simple as that, especially as the midfield could not be relied on to protect them. We sent out the wrong players, several in the wrong position, with the wrong tactics. We probably would've put in an equally bad performance and lost to Sunderland or Palace with that set up, and AVB would've been just as fired in the morning for it. Liverpool happened to be the team who we played when it fell apart...and bloody hell did it fall apart. I hear AVB's next job is teaching tactics the Christians used in their local derby with the Lions at the Colosseum judging by yesterday's shambles.

I'm not making excuses, I'm pointing out that you can only beat who is in front of you - and we the team we put out was one step above putting training cones on the pitch.

...apologies to the training cones for comparing them to Kyle Naughton.
