I think there are some on here that get confused between supporters, fans and customers.

Tends to be those that don't go that get the most confused.

Can you support the club and not the team?

Isn't that the case if you can't attend games but buy every home and away kit each season and wear it in the streets of your own city/country.

I am sure you're right and most would use it,I would, but technically it would no longer be a nickname.

think I'll copyright 'The Toadies'.If City goes I might as well make some cash from this sorry affair. After all that's the whole point of the exercise isn't it?

What pisses me off about The "real" fan argument. Is that you have no idea how it feels NOT to be able to attend games. I've never had the luxury to see city regularly until I came to live in the UK 7 years ago.

I ENVY the hell out of you. I wouldn't miss a home game if I was in Hull.

And if I am a PL whore, it would be for one reason only. For the fact that I get to see the full game online and not some ****ty 90 seconds on FL show.

When I started supporting city as a 9 year old, the internet wasn't around. All I had to rely on were ****ty 1 day old newspapers (My dad had to go to a specialised shop 40 mins away to get a British newspaper in Belgium and you could only get them a day late) telling me the scores and the league table. Eventually we got BBC1 on satellite dish so I could watch Final score. Even the radio didn't work until the internet radio came along. The only games I could attend were home games at boxing day and that's if I came to visit that side of the family in Hull over Xmas and that's if city were playing at home that year.

this may mean I wasn't a real supporter but you don't know how it feels to not be able to go. That is why when I go, I can't sleep the night before almost like Xmas eve as a kid. That's why I get there 2 hours early to soak up the atmosphere. That's why I don't stop singing and I never sit down. Because some of us don't have the privilege to see our team regularly. And it infuriates me to hear "supporters" around me, moan and bitch about such and such player or formation.

So maybe not attending games regularly makes me less of a true supporter. But The effort I make and my attitude when I DO go, in my opinion makes me a genuine fan.

I WILL END ON THIS.

If you're on here every ****ing day or even every now and then, talking about your club, fighting, arguing, praising, in any way, shape or form, then trust me...

...you clearly give enough of a **** about this club to be considered a real supporter.

I looked at this thread , read every response and have not seen one answer to the first post ...

quite funny really .. as it is a very valid argument and good points raised . And as for those who say if you do not attend your not a supporter .. how about every two weeks on call on weekends earning money .. a pass would have me watching 3 games in the last 3 years ... life is bigger than football ... to a lot of people

My son and I have had season passes for bloody years, however my cousin who lives in Brid has had a few heart attacks and now can't leave the house. He spends every game with his headphones on glued to R. Humberside. STILL A TRUE FAN.

I'm not comfortable with this who's the biggest fan stuff.

Any City fan is a City fan as far as I'm concerned.

I don't understand why some City fans aren't upset the name change, but I'm willing to accept that some people see things differently, even if I don't understand it.

In response to this a number of the things that you stated but i will give my reasons.

a) There is no valid reason to change the name. I don't doubt AA has the right if he wishes to change the name, but he has no valid reason to.
b) No viable benefit of changing the name. There is no benefit to this, the only thing it will do is cost the club money or loss the club revenue from local protests etc.... There will be no money gained in Asia whatsoever, if there was money to be made numerous other clubs would have done it by now. The big clubs are much more savvie than us at this.
c) He hasn't consulted the most important people, his customers. In any other business customers would walk away by now, but the way he has treat his customers is disgraceful, he does it because he knows he can get away with it.
d) It sounds completely and utterly stupid, Hull Tigers, it doesn't sound logical.
e) I don't think he knows what he is doing, his radio interviews, his reasoning, everything he says sounds as if he has made it up on the spot.
f) It may force Steve Bruce out, if another club in a decent position in the PL offered him a job, i could see him taking it.
g) If you was a player and you had the same contract on the table from another PL club who would you choose, not Hull Tigers.
h) Start here, where does it end? Move out of the City? Take Hull from the name?
i) It's a horrific precedent for football in general.
And Finally.

J) This is the most important one in my eyes. We are Hull City AFC, this is what we have been known as now for 109 years, we have a history and we need to use that as our marketing tool. A club battling numerous financial mountains to reach the peak of the game, sounds good to me. This is our club, we are the club, managers, chairman, players, kits, stadiums all change, the one thing keeping this club is us and our name. Change one of those two variables you change the club.

There are numerous other reasons but those are mine.

On true fans, i couldn't miss a Hull City game, my last two jobs i have taken because they allow me to go to Hull City, i once had a job that didn't after that i refuse to take another job that wouldn't allow me to go the games. Not having a game on a Saturday must be the worst thing in the world, i couldn't not support a local team to me, i feel for all of those who move out of the area, another thing i couldn't do.

Does this make me a better fan? No. I have no idea what my level of supporting is, all i know is i will be there if we go bust and reform in the Northern Premier League as this is my club, its in my blood, i can't change that and i would never want to.

I’ll try and deal with your questions, but as for you finding a consensus, it would be my opinion that folk are against the name-change, but by various degrees of intensity. But my position is as follows (in order of importance to me):

(D) All of the above – because the situation AA has created is simply wrong on every count – it is only shallow courtesy and gratitude that prevents his outrageous comments getting the reaction any liar and bully should receive.

(C) It’s the name and identity, it is respected wherever anyone cares about such things, Hull City is short and well recognised, The Tigers, our nickname, is iconic as a separate entity, it has historic and emotional value to the people who have supported it through thick and thin – there is neither rhyme nor reason to change it, unless someone can give me one?

(A) There is no valid reason for the change except that it is (financially) his club and that is the weakest argument in the world. We know the real reason, a true petty and vindictive one.

(B) Why on earth is resenting his dishonesty and deceit in any way petty or vindictive; it's not a reflection of what he is doing? His fictitious plan (you got that one right) has constantly changed and then been ridiculed as contemptible by those well placed in the sporting and marketing community. It is not petty or vindictive to not wish to give your clubs name and home to a proven liar and bully who has a very poor grasp of his own ‘master-plan’ – Mel Brooks could not have directed the zany course of his business acumen better.

Bonus Question:

No. If this could be shown and it is what the fan-base want, agreed through reasonable consultation, then I would honour that and move on to grassroots with no particular allegiance. It is my opinion that he cannot and will not show that to us.

I use the term fan-base (above) as I believe the super-supporter is nonsense; attend when and how you can, sing (chant) when you wish, offer your opinion and stand by it, do not believe you are todays ‘real‘ supporter, because unforeseen circumstances can all too easily make you tomorrows plastik!

There are clearly some super-supporters on the boards who know ****-all about football and even less about keeping a sporting clubs history and heritage intact. <whistle>

I'll take that dig at the end :D I deserve it.

I think there's definitely been an evolution in people's reasons and convictions since it was first said he was pressing on. He may have had the opportunity to change the name with a little more tact and poise from the start but now he has no chance of reverting back no matter what he does or says in the future. He won't win many hearts back anymore, so if hopefully he figures out a way to limit the damages but I reckon he's too sly and stubborn and firmly believes he will win this.

I must admit I fear the consequences of all of this. It seems like **** is going to hit the fan no matter what the FA decide. There will be backlash from either sides.
So enjoy it while you can lads!
