We were always going to start at home, that's the formality, 2nd team starts home, plays 2nd game away.
Well we were close to going through last time and our team is considerably stronger this year. We are capable of winning this tie.
Rubbish draw, they are too good and having faced them last year, I wanted us to play someone different.
If Arsenal start good and play well in the first game we will always have a chance, but the fact is, in many big games, we usually start very badly, take this season for example, against both United-City we started poorly, and really for the majority of the game were often poor. The same with Munich last year. We need to start the game with no fear, giving them no respect, getting into their faces etc. If we start timid and nervous, then forget about it, and at this point, it's going to get really frustrating if we're timid and nervous again, if we want to make the next step, it's time to start getting over the nerves in the big games.
We will get our arses kicked once again. At the end of the day, good thing we are being knocked out in this round, at least we can concentrate on the league!
We've started poorly in all the games we have done badly in, this season, Dortmund at home, Everton, United, and City. We have to stop doing this.
It's a worrying pattern from last season. The big games that we lost we started too slowly, didn't press the ball and allowed the oppo time to build and attack. We simply have to start both of these games against Bayern at full tilt and go for them, because like against City, if we sit back they will simply pick us off. If we do, then there's no reason why we can't win this tie.
Even in the Liverpool game, though we won it, we didn't start out that good....It was only against Napoli when we came out starting perfectly.
we wont " get our arses kicked " but we will not get past them i fear . Oh well . The chances of us winning it were not great so .......... Do what we can , and focus on the league , it wont be the end of the world to have to play less games .
I think Real Madrid are the toughest team we could have drawn, considering our somewhat changed playstyle in the last 2 years. I think the way we play now, somewhat more comfortable off the ball, we are better fit to face Bayern and Barca.
I never quite see how playing the second leg at home is an advantage. I always look at it if the second game is away - you know what you need to do, but far more importantly every goal is worth double also the chance of getting sucker punched on away goals is almost non existent. For example say we draw 0-0 at home then for every goal we score in the 2nd leg they have to score 2. I see that as an advantage arguably more than home support.
You would never hear Liverpool fans talking like this. Start actually 'supporting' our Club you miserable whingers. You have to beat the best to win it.
We are just discussing - i think we all will be clued to the TV / be at the stadium and fully support our team! The fact is that we are playing the champions and it will be a difficult game. I don't think we are quite ready but I am happy to be proved wrong.
If it is a 0-0 game then yes. But if you need to score goals to win then it is better to be at home. Always easier knowing what you need to know and be on home turf (except a 0-0 maybe )
The funny thing is, the last game against a "big team" that won in the PL was Man City back in 2012. We went at them like a bull at a gate and eventually won the match. Same thing against United earlier this year, when we attacked them from the first whistle we managed to get something from the game. I wish we would adopt a more positive mindset when playing big sides but I think we are too cautious.
This There's always the worry that going Gung-Ho will end up with a mauling, but it's been proven to us that being too cautious doesn't suit our style of play. I had a long running argument with an old member on here, now departed. He said that we should set up defensively against the big teams and I totally disagreed with him, saying that it just invites pressure and stops us from playing our most effective game. That in my opinion is still the case now and something we need to address.
That why we laugh at some of them . They live in a dreamworld . I am supporting our team , i dont think the players will be reading this thread and get disheartened by our lack of faith . Do you .
