**** sake cheer up, we've been there and see it before. The unfortunate problem is you young ones have only seen one relegation, and one promotion. Where as a lot of us have seen league 4 before following 3 consecutive relegations. It's the fun of supporting City, get used to it. It's a roller coaster of fun, I've enjoyed it so far.
I'm glad you're enjoying it, because the rest of us aren't. No need for the patronising comment about my age though, I've seen enough ups and downs to see we're in turmoil and appreciate the good times and the bad, I would've supported a big prem club if I wanted happiness from football.
It's not patronising is it, it's a fact. That's just looking for arguments. Unless you can remember 97-98 then you've only seen one promotion and one relegation. If you take it as patronising then that's your choice.
Redordead. Agree that if you are a certain age then this seasons predicaments are nothing new, although not sure about enjoying it?? might be that as I get older I get colder and more easily p****d off, must be the "Grumpy old man" syndrome. Joe Bryan? got rave reviews at Plymouth and from what I have heard is a bright Kid who is willing to learn, with him Bobby Reid, Wes Burns and a few others I still think things will look up. As long as we give them a chance.
Lan, the problem for me is the lack of consistency completely throughout the club, players are getting swapped about and played in different positions by different managers every 5 minutes. I want to find a steady consistent side of players and that means trusting them and giving them a run in the side to settle. Elliot and Gillett yesterday in central midfield?? This is how bad its got when the majority of the fans knew this wouldn't work but the manager is having to experiment to find a solution. I would say a majority of fans would rate Wynter from what they have seen, forget his off field persona.! thats gonna be affected by his lack of game time here anyway. From what I have seen of him he looks good, as does Kelly and Pack. They need to play, allowed time to make a few mistakes (we all do) gain confidence and get us going but most importantly gel together and become a unit. without that we are going nowhere. bigger clubs than us rate these players. (Danny Rose for example was rated as crap by many fans at this club??) As an aside, I have watched my son join a football academy 3 years ago and watched in wonder as the coaches pretty much started over with this group of players who had been thrown together, I watched them play through their first year and thought many of them simply weren't good enough. They kept them together, kept coaching, kept playing them. I watched them last Weds (3 years on) win 5 - 0 and looked like a side that now does not have any obvious weak links that can be awesome on their day. I am excited about what they could possibly do now if they stay together. That Man Utd side with Scholes, Beckham etc, was brought through the same way and its no coincidence.!
Don't forget 4 play off failures, dozens of relegation scraps, heart ache and disappointment Like I said I might not be as old as you (thank god ) but this current predicament we are in is very very bad. A lot of older posters on OTIB saying this is our worst era since 82, I can see why. http://www.otib.co.uk/index.php?/topic/159875-worst-situation-since-82/
I was 1 of the 4000 odd idiots that watched us play when we nose dived to the bottom of the 4th tier back then, that 1st half yesterday and some games lately was worse than back then, we are ****e and it's gonna get worse..
I don't know why it's a surprise to anyone we are so bad! I had no faith in Cotterill before he came in, and have even less faith he can get us out of this mess as soon as I saw the Tamworth game. Maybe I was watching something different to everyone, but I saw dreary hoofball exactly the way the Forest fans warned us over. Bang it long to the corners all day long. For crying out loud we looked unconvincing against non league opposition who are bottom of their league, with a 5ft10 goalkeeper, and ran by bigger planks than ours.
Yes young City supporters, this is bad as I have ever seen it. And I have seen seven relegations and the old Fourth Division. I am not afraid of League Two. I am scared to hell that we end in Conference Regional unless someone sorts us out now.
It's as bad as the years post 1982 On my wedding day in 1982 we were losing away at Hartlepool (3-1) and were very close to being 92nd out of 92 and we're heading that way again at a gallop. I hope the owner is happy for the total and utter mess he has managed to create over the past few years. We've ended up with a club with no heart that is a total mess from top to bottom and at every level, and barring a miracle, it's the likes of Accrington and division 4 for us next season. Even though it's not yet Xmas I can't see us staying up. How depressing is that ?
Got to admit I am/have fallen out of love for City. The whole state of affairs in recent years has just left me cold and unable to get that midweek buzz we get waiting for the next game. Sure I still chat and enthuse about City with mates or when ROD would pop into my office and try to be upbeat and excited, but its just every time I read or hear something City related I just kind of think "yeh, whatever". We lost on the weekend...AGAIN!...and its almost as if I was expecting it. There was no shock or I did'nt feel "gutted" on Saturday evening...its all just run-of-the-mill stuff now. Can you remember the excitement of just a few seasons back?...I remember driving home from an evening match and the talk sport guys were saying how well we were playing and how the crowd were buzzing as we wen't up to 7th in the league and said something like "look out for the Gary Johnson train on track to the top of the table"..............how can so much go so wrong in so short a time? I just look at the fixtures now and look to see where we may get a point.......sad or what?
The club is at a low ebb, certainly its lowest since the early eighties, but it is not as low as then. Away support of less than a 100 at times, a gate of minus 3000 at home v Millwall, 4000 gates the norm, and a club so skint it had no assets to sell and naming a physio as sub. The better aspects of Saturday appeared via the academy players. BCFC HAD a long term plan in place, the academy is part of that. Now? Who knows. It can get worse, the first forty five minutes Saturday saw a team lose its shape, appear to have no cohesion without the ball, appear confused by its Manager, maybe even already showing signs of a dressing room having no faith in the individual that selects it. Chopping and changing strategy put the FC here losing tens of millions. Cotterill is already mentioning big changes. Unleash that chemistry and it can get worse and cost yet more cash. I would have hope as he was the boards outstanding candidate, a clear idea is nailed down of what the FC are adhering to will be unveiled soon for fans to buy into e.g. These pillars unless that was last weekâs idea. O'driscolls last five in charge saw wins and draws. Wins and draws are not normally accidents, they are earned. There is ability there so this Manager should be expected to COACH them. The soil was and is still far away from falling over heads yet.
I envy you at times Cliftonville that you can be optimistic. I am afraid that as regards anything BCFC, I have become totally pessimistic and after 64 years a supporter, rapidly losing interest.
I echo that. It's difficult these day to even get too upset about results, performances, mistakes that cost us points, and the general lack of interest in the team, a meddling and interfering owner, an anonymous board, and a succession of managers who have only taken the club further downward, tells its own story and attendances reflect all of this.
I didn't go Saturday- I'm 90 miles away and was busy Saturday- I still felt guilty, but that changed as soon as I saw that we were 2-0 down. I cant see things getting much better and have almost accepted League 2 as being inevitable
In the recent month I saw draws and wins. Matches v Carlisle and Orient were good, enertaining and encouraging. Saturday was defensively the poorest match I have seen since Mcinnes was in charge, but its one match. The players who also played v Carlisle and Orient are there, I see no reason why that BCFC cannot attain close to mid table status still.
'I see no reason why that BCFC cannot attain close to mid table status still' No reason ? - I do. Playing Baldock up top with JET is a recipe for disaster. Baldock need's help but with a 'Taylor' allowing JET to play in his correct/effective position. Last w/e we set up exactly as SOD would and we're bottom. Continue in the same set up and mid table is impossible - L2 next August.
Exactly no. City previously employed a midfield with a central midfield player primarily to sit deep and defend. Saturday they did not, which allowed Rotherham to move through the centre of the pitch e.g the Second goal where not one but two central midfield players were in advanced positions. A player or players may have been instructed to occupy that midfield anchoring role, but it was apparent they were not. Maintain defensive rigidity and shape and points will be won. Play like Saturday for the first thirty minutes where bodies were not goal side, and the match will be lost each week in thirty minutes and a team will hit four or five.
'City previously employed a midfield with a central midfield player primarily to sit deep and defend' And we're bottom Because of SOD's 2mph possession game and Baldock up top on his own receiving balls from 80' in the air. 'Saturday they did not' And we're bottom. It won't say it in your coaching manual but we failed because JET played out of position and a 'Taylor' was sat on the bench. Made worse by Elliott trying/failing/playing in both halves. And by picking Gillett -full stop. Clifton, a tip when reading your coaching manual. Try reading between the lines.
