Good set of results today - see, you CAN do it when you try! Four challengers made successful jumps up the table, and two defenders valiantly beat off the opposition. No change at the top (or bottom, Ron!) So congrats to Cats, City, Steve and Uncle - because of the change of direction of the challengers, you all get the chance to do the double next week! Rest week for Number One, Bucks, and Number Eighteen, Ron Next weeks race will either be the Long Walk Hurdle or the Ladbroke from Ascot. I'd like it to be the Long Walk, but it usually cuts up - will advise of course later next week. 1. Bucks 2. Brough Tiger 3. Redcgull C 4 Reebok 5. Chaninbar C 6. Oddy 7. Uncle Cracker C 8. Stick Substitute 9. Steveo77 C 10. Smokethedeadbadger 11. Havinacow C 12. Sir Percy 13. Cityhull C 14. Wooly 15. Mwildcats C 16. Boston Bob 17. Bluesky C 18. Ron Good luck all
Did I actually go head to head with anyone this week Reebs? I chose Colour Squadron EW who placed. Ron and I are hanging out so much together at the bottom of the table people will begin to talk
I looked at the results Blue and, at a glance, I would say my challenge failed - miserably. I look up to everyone on here.
I only joined 3 weeks ago Ron and I think I am not understanding how it works very well as It seems to be in a table but you and I will seem to just keep challenging each other and swapping places.
You will be challenging Bob this week so you could leap up to No 16. I will still be at No 18 as I'm not allowed to challenge this week; not that it would make any difference if I were please log in to view this image
Although I keep chucking an arrow every week I'm not really warming to this competition format reebs - where did it come from again?
You're welcome to it mate Chan keeps picking the bloody winner every time I challenge him, he's looking invincible at the moment.
As you get first choice oddy when challenging I suggest you stop being nice and pick the winner instead lol
Well said Uncle Chaps - I wanted to produce a meaningful league table similar to a football league. And movement there is slow and gradual - sometimes in the wrong direction lol You wouldn't get a footy team in the drop zone one week and vying for a champions league slot the next, which is what has happened on here when we tried a league system before. I was watching a TV programme about illegal street racing and they have a similar system to this where everyone knows the top ten, and everyone is fighting to get up to take the number one place in time. There, number 5 for instance will issue a challenge to number 4, and if he wins, he goes up a position, and if he doesn't he can't challenge again, until he has beat off a challenge from number 6. I thought that it may work in our sport too. However, I am more than willing to listen to suggestions for improvements - I just don't want for example, a player gets lucky with a 20-1 shot and leaps up 10 places! One thought that I will put forward myself, is that it could revert to the more usual style but giving points for places similar to Hawk's Cheltenham competition but based on just the one selected race. It does however remove the rivalry element, which I had hoped would engender a competitive edge (buckle up, you slag, I'm comin to get ya! - well - along those lines anyway!) That's about it really - but please add your comments, I AM open to your suggestions - assuming they relate to the comp
It's a good system reebs, I'd never seen it that way before. I like the fact that it's just around one race as well.
From the numbers posting and after 6 weeks there has been movement and exitment ! Jumping is not my seen but I still look forward to the rivalries in this and chan/cync comp . Fingers crossed they both continue when my money making times come around lol keep up the good work reebs and anyone reading ITS NOT TO LATE TO MAKE REEBS OR CHAN DO A LITTLE EXTRA JOIN IN
Thanks Bob, Oddy and Uncle. I did consider that Bob, and in the original announcement/proposal for this comp, I did state that 2 no-shows would see you dropped a place. I think kicked out is a bit drastic, but dropped to the bottom place might be more appropriate! And give Ron some hope Well if you are ok with it I'll carry on regardless (cue Dexter) and warn the no-showers of the dire punishment for sleeping in And please do make any suggestions of your own
Just a suggestion but you could get more movement by making it a match race between the 2 selections should there be no result in the win/place market. Although Oddy has moaned about the accuracy of my recent arrows he actually whooped my ass a few weeks ago. I can't remember the horses involved but my was tailed off and his was runner up (he didn't go ew). Just a thought Reebs. Your comp your rules, I still chuck an arrow every week.
One way of getting more movement would be to operate along the lines of our office squash tables but it would pose a couple of problems: it may require too much time to administer competitors may not always be available to accept a challenge Anyone could, at any time, challenge anyone within 4 places above them provided they both were not already involved in a challenge. The challenged player had to accept the challenge and win to stay where they were (not possible to draw). If they didn't, the two changed places.
Ron: That's almost precisely the system I was trying to replicate that the street racers were using. But a challenger would wait until he had got his car just right before issuing the challenge, and the defender had to accept within a certain time frame, or lose by default. I don't think that would work well here, in as much as it becomes a bit unwieldy to do as a weekly contest. However - Chan: Excellent suggestion - I did use this method to resolve places in the original, pre-season, event where I used a formula of SP/stake*final position In the event of 2 selections falling, or pulling up, the winner would obviously be the one who travelled furthest. I'll go with that, and there will be a result every time
