Up until and including the everton game, the defence looked tight. In that everton game I thought it was looking as good as it has done for years. Then suddenly it fell apart and we have been leaking goals like a seive. At the other end it's been a disaster. Apart from against some very week opposition in the europa cup, goals have been like gold dust. Our brand of football has been turgid. We've struggled to play attractive football and struggled to penetrate defences. A number of the new signing have been disappointing. Soldado has been pretty much a dead loss, and paulinho - after a reasonably promising start - has been woeful, and appears to be a million miles from the type of footballing brazil midfielder that the world has become accustomed to over the years. Eriksen had a great debut but has struggled to keep pace in games since, and the other young starlet, lamela, has frankly looked like a championship player at times. The only new signings who seem to have performed as might have been hoped are chirichies, and - to a lesser extent - chadli and capoue. So how do we turn things round ? One of the bright points before his injury was that danny rose looked quality at left back, and looks like he can provide something going forward. We've got 2 quality ball playing centre halves in vertonghen and chiriches, but a question remains over whether they can muster the arial skills to play as a partnership. Walker has looked excellent recently, and seems to have improved his all round game and looks now to be fulfilling the talent that was obvious a couple of seasons ago. Young zeki fryers has also done a lot better than many had predicted. Will the manager play the mouthwatering looking line up of walker, chiriches, vertonghen, rose ? If so, how will he cope with injuries to them. And what on earth will he do in front of that ? Is adebayor's disgusting tweet of this afternoon the final nail in his coffin as a spurs player, or will he be given another chance ? Will the new manager play 2 up front ? What about midfield ? Will he use the holtby, siggurdson, eriksen players ? how about townsend, lamela, lennon, chadli out wide ? and what will he do about our misfiring collection of central midfielders ? Would he demand yet more new signings ? If so, what would be his priorities ? Any new manager will have a lot of decisions to make.
He'd bring BAE back so we would have a leftback... He'd tell them to pass with speed... He'd tell them to pass to soldado He'd play soldado with a partner He'd stop playing a high line with dawson in the team he'd drop naughton He'd tell them that boring football is not acceptable He'd appreciate the fans He'd stop playing injured players He'd stop playing players in their wrong positions He'd stop changing the team every ****ing week
What he said. But written in capitals 20 feet high. It is all too ****ing obvious. Also I would decide who my best 11 was within 4-5 games. It would be everybody elses job to break into the team. If you play well you keep your place. End of.
^^^ Pretty much what RCL said. Though I don't think Robby needs a partner, just the help from others around him. I hate it when I see him chasing the ball on the wings or coming back 20 or 30 yards. He's a penalty box predator and that's where he needs to be and that's where we need to supply him. Though that said, he has fluffed some chances that you'd expect a striker with his sort of price tag bury.
He drives through the ball with power and sends it high way past row z! Same against Utd and Liverpool but that's probably him trying too hard as you can see he's desperate to prove he's no flop.
Exactly, that's why I say he needs help from others around him, they should do the chasing and hard work and leave him to deal with the business end of things.
He would have to work with what we have and make most of the new signings show their worth. A first 11 should be , with flair , adventure, expression and pace . -------------Lloris------------------- -----Verts----------Romanian------- Walker-----------------Rose/Benny-- -------Holtby----Eriksen------------ Townsend----Paulinho--------Llamela----- -------------Soldado---------------- We are top heavy with defensive plodding mid fielders. Better ball players are needed , sell one or two from Sandro, Capoule, Dembele, Paulinho. I except never winning anything but not seeing stylish cavalier football is unacceptable.
Chadli and Soldado to be potent under our next manager? Well if Tony Pullis can get Chamakh scoring then you can't bet against it!
He must be regretting criticising the fans over the lack of atmosphere. No.1 rule. Never criticise them. Hanging on by a thread with little support.
He looked depressed sat on the bench , counting down the days until the world cup where he can impress to get away from us!
He'd bring BAE back so we would have a leftback...I've had it with BAE if his tweet tonight was genuine He'd tell them to pass with speed...Fine - once we can pass better He'd tell them to pass to soldado...ditto He'd play soldado with a partner....so we leave out a creative player for Defoe? He'd stop playing a high line with dawson in the team....so we press less and lose the ball more - why is that better he'd drop naughton...he only plays him as a last resort He'd tell them that boring football is not acceptable....I'm sure that would really change results He'd appreciate the fans....ditto He'd stop playing injured players....he doesn't usually He'd stop playing players in their wrong positions....such as? He'd stop changing the team every ****ing week...so what is the point of having a squad?
If Sandro and Naughton were not fit it was a mistake to play them. But anyone would be tempted given the other injuries. I though Fryers was injured most of the time that Naughton played ahead of him. AVB's under a lot of pressure - people usually make more mistakes then. But getting the fans behind him seems to have been a lost cause since day 1.
1 our problem at left back were caused by him letting bae go and not replacing him 2 why spend 130m on players that cant pass 3 ditto 4 what creativity...what did we create today? 5 no we just play to our defenders strengths 6 back to point 1...it is his fault that naughton is needed 7 ...football is about fun, enjoyment and excitement...results follow 8 why should we be blamed for **** football and **** results when HE is responsible for the team and tactics? 9 he did today...he kept loris on v Everton even though he was too concussed to play a week later, he played rose on thursday and he didnt make it to the 2nd half 10 vertongen as a right or left back instead of central defence, lennon on the right 11to get you through a whole season...not to prevent you playing a settled side
I was against him being our manager but like most fans got behind him and gave him the benefit of fhe doubt. It was aonly after the toon match that I gave up on him...in my experience he has been well suported by us fans yet when the press got on his back he laid into the home fans cos we were creating negativity by being quiet! The man behaved like a cock and no longer deserves support imo...I am going to the west ham match with y daughter and will fully support the team but have no faith in him...it is he that has caused this not the fans
Power what you have to remember is no fan enjoys being against the manager of the club, the manager is the link between the fans and the team, which is why passions run high. To go from Redknapp, VDV and Modric to AVB, Dembele and Dempsey. Too much of a change, too negative and Avb has been struggling to win fans over yet he hasn't done enough to understand the importance of playing a certain style and it's obvious his style isn't suited to our club, and nor is his personality.
Agreed. 4-2-3-1 is, in my opinion, the best formation in football - if you have the squad to suit it. You should have solid link play from back to front, width on the wings and if you break at speed, the formation tends to go to 4-2-4 (i.e. ultra attack). Similarly, if you're defending, you're actually 6-3-1. That's all fine if your players are capable of playing that way. Ours aren't by the looks of things. We used to try 4-4-1-1 under Redknapp IIRC - that worked nicely as does the occasional dip into 4-4-2. AVB has never really tried to switch things up a little. Too stubborn.
