Another bright sunny day here after overnight frost.

Friday the 13th for some reason is thought to be a lucky day here. I have no idea why it is so, or why it is thought to be the opposite over there. Any suggestions?

They are probably just narked that they don't have their own word for it and have to use the English Paraskevidekatriaphobia. :)

There are so many theories as to why it is viewed as unlucky, most of them biblical or linked to deities of earlier civilisations, but I doubt anyone really knows for sure. It is odd that the French view it as lucky though - wasn't Friday the 13th (1307) the date that Phillip IV of France instigated the demise of the Knights Templar? Or maybe that was viewed as a good thing by the general public....

I'm fairly sure the reason the number 13 is thought to be unlucky relates to Jesus and the 12 disciples at the last supper! Not sure on the Friday bit though!

I was always lead to believe that it was the date on which the Templars were all killed. Thats what the Da Vinci code says anyway.

Supposedly because the last supper immediately preceded the crucifixion, which took place on a Friday.

Friday was mostly seen as a day of celebration in pre-Christian societies - and Christianity is known for it's habit of promoting itself by denigrating other's beliefs...

Morning all from a cold but sunny Jersey. It was windy last night. If the amount of material in the dresses being worn in St. Helier last night were similar to those I saw on some of the women while I was out having my team Christmas meal on Friday, I wonder how many were admitted to Jersey General with hypothermia last night?

Morning all

Grey and damp here...a bit of pathetic fallacy in terms of yesterday's performance. Still, Christmas cards all sent now and game stew nicely bubbling away in the oven. Pigeons appear to be molesting each other in the garden...one way of keeping warm I suppose.
