    I have been angry for a few months now, perhaps it's how Charlton are being run? perhaps not? but I have taken some of my anger out on Sky :) ..... deciding they do not do enough for their £55 per month I set out to do something about it ....... feel free to copy tactic if you wish <ok>

    Phone up sky on their free number (if you have sky phone service) 0845???? ish whatever (it's on their website) and tell them you are giving notice you are leaving, you will be put on to their retention team, tell them you are leaving to join Virgin, they will ask you what you have been offered (do not tell them just say they have offered you a better deal than the published ones), I told them I was happy with Sky and would miss 'Sky Atlantic' but that the Sky package has just become too expensive..... they will offer you a £5 monthly reduction at first to which you say that this is closer to Virgin but still a bit high then you should be offered a £10 monthly reduction..... you then tell them that cost wise this makes them competitive but that during bad weather you still lose your television..... you then point out that with all TV being digital you have no TV in heavy rain or snow (Virgin does not suffer from this) and this should get you a new Sky HD Box with free installation :)........ finally you tell them that your WI-FI is poor and that it keeps dropping out.... this is a bit more tricky... firstly you are put onto a Broadband engineer who checks your line for you (I got a new filter box at this point) who may tweak a few settings and order a 24 hour line check... the line check showed that my broadband fell over once during this 24 hour period but I said my WI-FI had fallen over much more than that and it was agreed that my problem was my old router... I was put back to the retention team.... they offered me a new router for a special price of £39.99 with free delivery.... hold your nerve (she wasn't going to give me a new router!) and I told her I was going to leave..... I then waited for 7 days and phoned back to ask for my MAC code (the code you need to transfer your broadband) as I was moving to BT...... I said I was sad to leave but the WI-FI had been very poor over the last few months and I was disappointed that the advisor last week had refused to give me a new router (especially when they can ONLY be used for Sky broadband) ....... that did the trick and a new router is winging its way to me in 3-5 days totally for free.

    So I have got -
    £10 monthly reduction in my Sky TV
    A new Sky HD box and free installation
    A new Sky router
    A new broadband filter box.

    Probably, in total. it took me 45 minutes on the phone but as I have the Sky telephone service that has cost me nothing :)

    I would be interested to see if anybody can get something better? It's the same tactic I use with my mobile phone and always get between a £5 and £10 monthly saving over the published rates.

    <cheers>

    Honestly TED.... it is far more expensive for them to get new customers than keep old ones ..... give it a go <ok>

    Congrats, AHLL. If I had SKY I'd try this as well. Sounds as though it more than makes up for the U-18's business?

    What you mean how much they will pay you to renew? I would hold out for £250 plus a free car park space <ok>

    at the rate they're going we'll lose 2-3 thousand season ticket holders next season.

    if it goes up, i'll have to have a rethink.

    Do this with sky and 02 annually. Only works over the phone with network providers though <ok>
