    "Bring Back Bairdhino"

We could have done with him this season.

I always felt Bairdinho's best position was at centre back. It's a shame he didn't get to play there more often for us. This season, with Hangeland's injuries and all, he might have added a bit of balance and class to the back four. Then again, I don't think he would have been picked ahead of Amorebieta, Senderos and Hughes. That observation probably tells us more about why he left than anything else.

What a weird ruling though, after the Galatasaray v Juventus Champions League match was abandoned. It will be played tomorrow, but not from the start - it will begin where the clock stopped ie in the 56th minute.

Can't say I've heard of that ruling before.

Didn't that happen us a couple of years ago against Sunderland? We were one nil up I think at the time. I can't recall what happened in the replay though.

    Well remembered Ireland.

Have to admit I had to look it up. April 2006 it was and Brian McBride had put us one up before the game was abandoned after 21 minutes. However, I believe the match was replayed from the beginning. That was four weeks later and we ended up losing 2-1. Sunderland still got relegated as the bottom club though!

I remember it well. It's a very unfair ruling on the club winning during the match. There was a cup game recently where one team was up 2-0 only for the game to be abandoned with minutes left as the referee got injured, not sure if it was replayed from the start but there should be different rules for different situations.

Believe it or not the exact same thing happened in a game I was playing in for my local team. 2-0 up towards the end of a semi-final and the ref went down injured. We replayed the game from the very start and lost 2-0. Horribly unfair and led to a few 'conspiracy theories'.

The thing I think is unfair is that the result doesn't stand but if a player is sent off and a game is called off the ban still stands. If you cancelout the result you really should also cancel out any penalties that have been applied as you are saying that the game never actually took place.

    Welcome B..B..T..

Fair point. And I guess that's the strong argument for re-commencing the Galatasaray v Juventus game from exactly the where it stopped. My main curiosity was that I'd just never heard of that happening before.

Whooosh. West Brom haven’t wasted any time:

“Steve Clarke has been sacked as head coach of West Bromwich Albion following a fourth straight Premier League loss.

Clarke's side were beaten 1-0 by Cardiff today, a result which left the Baggies two points above the relegation zone.
    .
A club statement said Clarke has been placed on gardening leave with immediate effect.

Joint-assistant head coach Keith Downing will take control of first-team affairs while the club look for a new head coach. Clarke's other assistant Kevin Keen has also been placed on gardening leave.

West Brom sporting and technical director Richard Garlick said: "We have reluctantly come to the decision to relieve Steve of his duties after very careful consideration.
"It has been well documented that we have not had the rub of the green in certain games this season but that does not cloud the generally disappointing points return during this calendar year. "This club's track record proves we do not take such decisions lightly, having only enforced a change in this position three times in approximately 14 years.

"But with key games coming thick and fast, we felt it was important we acted now to give the club the best possible chance of a successful outcome this season.
"Our player wage bill is the highest in the club's history and we feel we have built a squad capable of being very competitive in the Premier League."

Blimey, didn't see that happening. Mind you, they were similarly quick to sack Di Matteo and that seemed to work for them.

Actually Jol is currently second favourite to get the job.

The man who is actually favourite for the job is in fact Roberto Di Matteo.

That is mental. Although not many get sacked by West Brom then win the Champions League within the next year.

Another one bites the dust. Jol's going to be spoiled for choice with his previous clubs at this rate.

"A Tottenham statement read: "The club can announce that agreement has been reached with head coach, Andre Villas-Boas, for the termination of his services."

"The decision was by mutual consent and in the interests of all parties."

Apparently AVB has now made £15million by getting sacked from his last 2 jobs. Not bad.

Again, who are they going to get in? Chelsea have set a precedent, which is "sack a manager every bad spell and you win trophies".
