At smaller charities, yes. Bigger charities have employed directors but its not that common, usually just have a executive officer or something to do the work for them

My aunty in law runs an animal charity a very large one rehoming cats and dogs but not sure if she takes a wage. Majority of her workers are volunteers I think though

All charities are different but most have staff to run things behind the scenes.
