Makeshift CBs, fair enough. But limited bench options if things do not go to plan. I would have liked Stewart on the bench, at least for the option of 2nd half CB and move Capoue into his normal position.
I guess the plan is to give Danny Rose about 60 - 70 minutes then AVB has a choice, bring on Daws and put Friers to full back or give Fredricks a run out. Eriksen should also get 25-30 minutes. He had to give Soldado a start but I would have liked to seen him give a few more of the youngsters a go. Shame we couldn't recall Tommy Carroll for cup matches.
Carroll is better off with Redknapp, just like Townsend last year. Avb wouldn't know how to use Carroll properly and instead would get the odd game here and there.
You are totally right. However, my comment suggested that it's a shame that we can't do a temporary recall for Europa Cup matches, then straight back to QPR afterwards.
The key point today is probably AVB looking at well Rose holds up. We are fortunate that the Academy does make the kids play often out of their nominal/preferred positions (Fryers at CB etc) , so at least tis not total desperation.
Fryers is a woeful defender and isn't good enough to play centre back at premier league level. He may get away with it in these games but we should be using our own kids rather then buying other academies rejects.
So which Academy CBs should be playing tonight then ?? I suggested Stewart. Any other eligible kids you wish to volunteer ??
I still don't get why we let Caulker go when Kaboul's fitness was so questionable. Not replacing Assou-Ekotto was particularly stupid, too. Loan out Fryers and bring in two defenders in January, please.
"I still don't get why we let Caulker go when Kaboul's fitness was so questionable." Because of alleged comments he made about one of Uncle Joes' daughters (within earshot of some of clan Lewis) . That aside, it would have made sense to progress Veljkovic. But such is Spurs, it seems that even his registration with the club prior to squad registration is/was the usual <standard> mess.
"would be nice for moral and coefficient to do so too" Won't have an easier chance to take 12 ranking pts in a UEFA group stage than this season.
Tonight I couldn't really care who plays centre back, more commenting on Fryers being part of our squad ahead of other players we have, anyway Fryers is primarily a full back and I doubt he's more talented then Smith.
"more commenting on Fryers being part of our squad ahead of other players we have" Ahead of who (and at what position) ??
26 million for a striker who scores in the Europa, good deal!! No, good to see Soldado score as he's going to have his chance soon in the league.
