I am delighted by the regurgitation of this news.

I think this is all to do with Hull City's history and assem Allam's place in it.He has achieved the quickest rise from winding-up petition to Premier League, something he is proud of. By changing the name he will be the first chairman of a Premier League club to do so. Our history is then split in two. Hull City (not a lot to do with him), Hull Tigers (everything to do with him).

Saturday should have been a celebration of the contribution of Ebenezer Cobb Morley to world football, this announcement means that the biggest topic of conversation at the KC will be Assem Allam's decision to change the name. I wonder how all those FA members attending will feel about that.

I think your idea has a good deal of sense behind it, TC. However - if City is 'fattened up' for sale (by means of name-change) - wouldn't a new (billionaire?) owner not wish to change the name back to 'Hull City'? After all, he may have bought it because of the 'Tigers' name.

My guess is that the club already knows what the result would be regarding the name change, but unless the application was made they could not be told officially.
My second guess is that the meeting with Steve Bruce was the trigger for the application. People could have misunderstood Steve Bruce's reason for having a little chat. Steve Bruce could have said something along the lines of, this cannot drag on, please stop talking to the media about the name change and if you are going to make the application make it now so we can all move on and just get on with the football.
Assam Allam has not beeen quoted in the media, since.

Take this anyway that you want, but the application if it was going to be made in my view had to be lodged sooner rather than waiting until the new year. The result could affect the money that Assem Allam is prepared to spend in the transfer window. The club was also well aware of the application by another club or perhaps a ladies team to register the name Hull Tigers, this combined with the meetings may have influenced the move.

    As I say all guesswork.

I disagree, the history isn't split in two, its the same club, the name shortening is just another part of that long and lucrative history.

It's not exactly regurgitation. Mr Allam has actually bloody gone and done it now.

Maybe we should do a remake of the above and send it into the FA.

We'd have to change the words a bit but it's doable.

Grange Hill? I thought you were a bit old Carmine. Did you watch Byker Grove too?

Hull City Association Football Club ---> Hull Tigers

Chazz called this last week, old seer he is. I think he's given away a huge hint that he's been making secret undercover visits to the snooker club, how else could he possibly have clocked this before time?

    Eh?

What are you on about, you think I'm too old to have watched Grange Hill?

Cheeky twat, and no I didn't watch Byker Grove.

You could be Janet to my Roland.

But you don't count as Assem Allam said, its his club. All he's doing is putting an end to a lousy history. New name, new start.

Bollocks. We'll have to agree to disagree. Same club, same history, just another chapter. Maybe the start of book 2 in the series. It's hardly drastic.

I've just looked and Grange Hill is older than I thought. The fact you didn't watch Byker Grove confirms you're a proper old fart though.

It's a little known fact but did you know Zammo is a locksmith in Surrey?

As you well know nobody ever chanted Hull City Association Football Club, nor is it the name read out at ten to five on a Saturday. A lot of the people on here who don't care about the change of name have lowered themselves into becoming WUMs.
