Napoli IMO. Not that I'd want that but if one day we do find ourselves in Europa how far do you reckon we'd go? I'd say we should be at least semi-finalists and really should be winning it. That being said we have a tall order for the big boy cup and if we can make it past the R16, we'd have made a huge step to shutting the doubters up.
im sure they wont need much motivation , they have been robbed of a place at the top table . Rafa wont let that lie ! Look out spuds .Napoli have been Arsenaled ! and they are angry !
If we took it seriously, I see no reason as to why we could not win it. The difference in level between the CL and the EL is vast.
we're going to need to be on top of our game to get through to the next round. Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are the teams we need to avoid at all costs. As good as they are, we can beat any team on our day, but we'd find it hard to go through against these guys. PSG and Atletico are both flying high, but I feel we'd have much more of a chance against these guys.
lol we have a chance against any team . We have all seen us play cr@p , but we have all seen us play facking fantastic. If the roulette wheel is kind we will have glory , If it is not then , ahhh well , we will have seen something . Onwards !
As mentioned previously in this thread. I'm not really fussed who we get next. We're going to have to beat one of Barca, Bayern, Milan or Real if we're going to get anywhere near winning this comp, so we might as well bring it on sooner rather than later
If Arsenal play their attacking football home & away they have a chance, if they try and play defensively they'll be out. You never look comfortable playing defensively, you just don't have the defence you had with Adams et al, and it's like you're playing to your weakness instead of your strengths
we seem to be able to play defensively for a while , abou 40 mins , then the concentration goes. Its just not us . We are used to playing to win , hell thats even been a weakness of ours when we have been 3 up and still taking chances . But for 90 minutes , no chance . You have to play to win or prepare to lose. Decide which , and stick to it .
If we play like we played our 2nd match against Napoli, we have no chance anybody in the next stage. If we play like we played our 1st match against Napoli, we have a good chance against anybody.
How the f--k did Dortmund consider themselves through? There were still 3 games to play including that! Don't try taking anything away from our away wins ok? Even though I said they were ugly wins, and that on another day it could go different, they were still fantastic wins against 2 top top European teams, we still needed to come up with the goods, and we did, and almost got the job complete against Munich....But peeps like you will always find something to try and discredit Arsenal so your **** arguments can stick, even if we beat City and Chelsea, and won the league, you'd still come up with some **** excuses. My main point? We have to play better from an attacking sense, that's all I meant, not what you're trying to argue, that Arsenal always come short in the big games.
All I'm saying is that you have made a pronouncement and are certain you are right, when logic would dictate otherwise. I don't really understand why you think Walcott would have been better defensively than Ramsey, or how he would have been able to "Catch Napoli on the break AND play defensively helping Jenkinson". Bringing Walcott on in that situation would have been an awful mistake, probably the worst thing he could have done.
Oh wow, Piskie and Toledo arguing, :-D. I for one didn't have a problem with Wenger bringing Ramsey on, I was actually expecting both Ramsey and Wilshere to come on for Cazorla and Rosicky, to freshen things up a bit and give us some more defensive stability because that's when things were looking tough, so I didn't understand why he kept Rosicky on, that for me was a mistake, he should have taken him off earlier, not after Napoli scored. And then once Arteta got sent off, well that ****ed everything up, no way could he bring on Walcott after that. For me the guy who deserves the most blame today is Arteta, as a captain, not good enough the way he got himself sent off. I remember against Munich as well when we were 2-0 up he lost his head too and kept giving away silly fouls.
This game smacked of trying to just do enough and qualify with one eye on the weekend. Although it nearly backfired it gives me the impression that Wenger is giving the PL priority. You can't blame him for thinking you had enough quality to handle this game with who was on the pitch. All in all it was a hairy moment but you are through and didn't have to risk Walcott and rested Ramsey and Wilshere and thankfully no injuries. Everyone wants to be fit for Sat no doubt, the biggest challenge of the season so far in going to the Etihad.
I don't like to criticize players and it was a very soft second yellow, but yes, not great move from our captain of the day. It wasn't as if it was a truly dangerous situation.
