There you go, corrected for you, now you can read on![/QUOTE]

It was the story on my car radio too and saved me from getting caught up in the gridlock, local radio coming in to its own and providing a vital service.I was able to take a different route and avoid what sounded a terrifying scenario (Andy Comfort almost in tears in his house on Vicky Dock) unfolding down Ferensway, Castle St, Hessle Rd, A63, Clive Sully.

If I criticise the (national ) BBC, it's because I expect them to report the news in the way I believe they should do, not because some newspaper flags it up to me.

If other towns and cities are experiencing what Hull had last Thursday night and it doesn't make an impact the news agenda, then what does?!?!?!?!

All clubs had the choice to pay respects to Mrs.Thatcher. I would hazard a guess that many chairmen/women who tend to be from the business world would also tend to see her as an icon! However, rather obviously many chose not to mark her passing. I'm no Tory and detested much of what she did, but I wouldn't have had a problem if our club had chosen to do it simply out of respect to her as our former PM.

I did not give a resume of his life...if you had read it you would have seen I was mainly taking about people who were called terrorists (wrongly in my opinion) for believing in a particular cause.

like I said you simply come across as some who is bitter/angry/annoyed that Mandela has been shown more respect in death than Thatcher...that seems to be an issue of your personal politics so maybe if you had refrained from calling him a terrorist; a dead old black man; a foreign politician; etc. you might have been given the time of day but actually you have come across like an spoilt child or a arrogant wum (note I have said come across like rather than calling you names) by being disrespectful to Mandela...the very thing you seem to have a problem with when it comes to Thatcher...and that is plainly hypocritical.
    I'm off as I have work tomorrow...cheers

The choice not to mark her passing was because of the fear of widespread disruption (and the consequent embarrassment) which is a sad state of affairs for football and the people who attend it. On a par with booing national anthems of other countries.

It's also a shame that the people who administer football both locally and nationally don't have the courage to do what they think is the correct thing rather than the expedient one.

I could say that you come across as a **** but I wouldn't stoop to the same level as you in sneakiness.

I hate having to explain but somethings need correcting. If you look back I said he was a dead old African which doesn't have the same slant as saying he was a dead old black man (which of course I never said- check back in the early part of the thread). The point here being that he was from another hemisphere and another continent- a world figure but not a British one, so his relevance on British Tv should have been tempered by that. Seems it wasn't.

This sophistry seems to have eluded you.

Rather than re-iterating me earlier points about applicable yardsticks to be used for Thatchers' death and Mandela's death, I'll restrict myself to saying your assumptions are wrong.

Buon lavoro as the Italians say....'You pay our benefits' as we Hull folk say <laugh>

People such as Mandela, Luther King,Gandhi all had flaws but to take a swing after their demise dismisses why they were so venerated, loved and honoured. They put their lives on the line and fought for a better world. Gandhi was in South Africa fighting against Apartheid before Mandela was born. Mandela was not perfect but we do not seek perfection. This is not art-this is life and the human struggle for justice.

Minutes silence at football should be limited to national silences and football people. No need for anything else, at this rate we'll be holding 100 minutes silence before each game to mark the passing of bill the butcher et al.

My bad re the your description of Mandela...apologies
I understood your point about him not being British which is why I mentioned the amount of people in Britain who actively supported Mandela during the fight against apartheid to give an alternative view....but it appears this sophistry eluded you (not that hard to be a smart arse is it)
As to why you could have called me a **** .... why? For disagreeing with you? Whatever rocks your boat mate.
    My sneakiness?????
As for me paying your benefits....I am a teaching assistant .... I aint paid enough to buy you a cuppa tea <laugh>

Not that the HDM is an oracle or truth in a mendacious world and it's unseemly to bleat on in a self-pitying way, but there is a grain of truth in this article and the comments.

As for Estuary Tv, my thread was expressing disappointment that I now get Grimsbycentric news which is of absolutely zero interest to anyone outside that town. I'm sure if you're from there it's a positive sign to keep the green monster at bay as they seethe at Look Hull (<laugh>) every night....

It's not a case of your argument eluding me, I just don't think that it's such a factor to be taken into consideration when the old feller finally snuffed it.

In a similar way, I think the BBC devote far too much news airtime to minor American 'disasters' or mishaps.

There are far bigger disasters and mishaps that seem to warrant barely a passing mention. A bizarre editorial policy.

And yes I remember Colin Lee, I think I even saw him play for you when you lost here in 77.

Didn't you pooh-pooh the floods as being nothing to worry about, Asbo?

I exhorted those affected to show a stiff upper lip and not blub (ref. my comment about Andy Comfort's tremulous voice).

You know, if there's one thing I've learnt from being in the Army, it's never ignore a pooh-pooh. I knew a Major, who got pooh-poohed, made the mistake of ignoring the pooh-pooh. He pooh-poohed it! Fatal error! 'Cos it turned out all along that the soldier who pooh-poohed him had been pooh-poohing a lot of other officers who pooh-poohed their pooh-poohs. In the end, we had to disband the regiment. Morale totally destroyed... by pooh-pooh!

Wrong! For you, everyone from elsewhere - East Hull, South Bank, Leeds, up North, down Sarf - are freaking worthless. British? United? Don't make me sick.
