Liverpool can big £500bn for Phil Jones but it will make **** all difference if there is a clause in his contract saying offers of £16m must be accepted.

KPR certainly doesn't seem to understand this. Man Utd won't have to raise their bid by a penny if their £16m has already triggered the clause in his contract, doesn't matter if other clubs offer more money.

And liverpool haven't offered more money anyway, so it's an irrelevance created by Liverpool fans determined to claim that they have something over United.

When you can't beat us to trophies you have to try and claim any little victory possible, be it on or off the pitch. It's like Arsenal fans gloating that they won their 1st leg tie against Barcelona while we lost the Champions League final to the same team, nevermind that Barcelona dumped them out in the 2nd leg (so that 1st leg victory meant **** all in the end) and we got further than them <doh>

Did liverpool actually bid £22 mil? If they wanted jones why not just bid £16mil and use the release clause? It's not as if united would say, oh no we must pay more?

Liverpool's biggest problem imo is that Dalglish isn't a great player spotter. And his chief scout (the Spurs reject) Damien Comolli seems to be more fond of hearing his own voice than progressing the team. Has anyone else ever seen a more "media friendly" chief scout in their life. Not arrogant, just poor.

He didn't spot Beardsley or Shearer. He simply bid higher for them, a luxury he no longer has. Ray Houghton, Tim Flowers, John Aldridge, Le Saux - What about them? How good were they? They certainly weren't world class by any means. They fulfilled a role, nothing more, which is okay when you have a team full of world class players. Liverpool don't currently have a team full of world class players.

Bare in mind what Hansen said. Liverpool were better in '88 than '90 as the key players were all 2 years older. But "King Kenny" didn't bring in the required players to replace that quality. Then he walked out.

Those players although not world class were no where near as bad as some of the rubbish the Govan Gob signed in his time.
Do you remember this lot or do you still think Football began in 1992 when Skysports came about.
    Neil Webb.
    Mike Phelan.
    Mal Donaghy.
    Jim Leighton.
    Danny Wallace.
    Ralph Milne.
Even Sparky didn't sign as much over priced ****e when he was city boss.

You appear to be trying to compare Dalglish's best signings to Ferguson's worst. Maybe we should consider some of "King Kenny"'s uber flops:

    Garry Brady
    Stéphane Guivarc'h
    Jon Dahl Tomasson
    Alessandro Pistone
    Andreas Andersson
    Carl Serrant
    Laurent Charvet
    Stephen "made of" Glass

At least SAF had the excuse that he had to improve on the terrible squad he inherited. In contrast, Dalglish managed to single handedly destroy the best squad Newcastle had ever had in the Premier League. He was to Newcastle what Graeme Souness was to Liverpool.

Mike Phelan was not a bad signing, neither was Webb he was just plagued with injury. Milne was ok nothing special but no worse than your average PL player is today, as was Donaghy, Leighton possibly fits that bill too, one horrendous event sealed his fate. Hero to zero.

BTW I can remember football pre Liverpool dominance.
