Sunderland manager Gus Poyet wants QPR goalkeeper Julio Cesar. Beleaguered Poyet is exploring ways to bolster his side, who sit five points adrift at the foot of the Premier League table, and has identified vastly experienced Cesar as someone who could trigger a revival. The 34-year-old has been told he can leave Loftus Road and wants a move to ensure his place in the Brazil side for this summerâs World Cup. Although Rangers were relegated from the Premier League last season, Cesar was one of the few to emerge with credit for his performances. QPR would prefer a permanent transfer but Sunderland boss Poyet wants to push through a loan deal until the end of the season and take over Cesarâs wages. Poyet has used Vito Mannone in goal since first choice Keiren Westwood picked up a head injury against Hull City in November yet Sunderland have still only taken one point out of the last 12. Sunderland brought in 14 players during the summer and, while Poyet is also desperate to bring in a striker, he is unsure how many new signings he will be allowed to bring in. Poyet said: âIâm working on changing things in January, thatâs for sure. But that doesnât affect my thinking about now. âThere are things going on behind the scenes in terms of the transfer window - that hasnât changed - and Iâm confident they will happen. How big the changes will be, I donât know just yet. But we need results now, in our next few games, and it is about personality and attitude. There is a gap between us and the other teams, so we need to be spot on.
Cesar pleasantly surprised me last season. I knew he was a good goalie, or had been, but expected an aged continental type to struggle a bit. Bar a couple of mistakes, he was exceptional. I think he'd be a good signing for Sunderland, as the Mig (still my favourite prem goalie, though pre-concussed Lloris was doing well) was pretty vital in picking up points. I don't think you lot are playing worse than last year, or too bad in general, but not having a worldly in nets means you lose more of those tight games.
Yes please!!! Your only as good as your goalie. So.many times we've conceded weak goals this season that Mig would have saved. Spurs two for example, thought they were both saveable
That was down to pathetic defending rather than the goalie though mate. it's the defence that needs sorting ahead of the keeps - Cesar didn't exactly keep QPR in the league, although he'd be a welcome addition to the squad.
Should not have sold Mig, what the hell was Di canio thinking ?. Manone ( may well be man off sometimes !) does not command his area. And as for a striker Defoe cannot get a regular start at Spurs and he wants to be at the world cup next year, mind you I would love Mata (Chelsea, here on loan but that seems impossible) Suarez ! maybe. If I owned SAFC and had about £300 m I would get him on loan and pay him £200,000 a week, get the stadium up to 65,000 sign Ronaldo, Sweinstieger, Bale, Messi maybe keep Danny graham in reserve HAHA, and we won't need a defence with that lot up front. You have to dream sometimes.
He is better than both of our Keepers so it's a yes for me. can't see it happening tho. wages will be to high.
You wouldn't get Messi, Ronaldo and a year of their wages for 300m. I'd take Cesar, big wages but great player.
I'm not sure that wages are a stumbling block... We got Remy, though I doubt we're paying all his wages. You might get him on loan til QPR come up, which would be a good deal all-round really. They do have other keepers, one of whom is Rob Green, who I'm sure they need to keep happy (though I think he's an overrated pudding). A loan would also allow for potential bolstering of other areas. The question then is agents fees, because despite signing precisely nobody, we payed like the 9th most in agents fees.
