haha, yet again you make a prize prick out of yourself, by spouting off about a subject that you patently know nothing about.

Bookmakers make money on the 'book' not the individual bet you moron. Their aim is to create a balanced book that results in them winning whatever the outcome, a margin of between 5-7% is the usual aim.

They create the book & react to what money comes in, they may alter the odds or lay off part of their exposure with another bookie, but the aim remains the same, to have a balanced book that leaves them a margin.

They are in essence market traders.

p.s. I note that you buck whenever anyone uses actual facts to back up their argument, I suppose it stems from making an entire career out of spouting woolly bollocks & theory to gullible HR directors who were spark out of ideas. As I'd imagine that you've been called out on a number of occasions by people who wanted to see some numbers to back up the waffle :)

When you say "on your own", do you mean there was no-one else in the pub?
I never realised you were that unpopular.

    Congratulations, btw

    Was the prize drinkable?

There is no prize. Just bragging rights. I finished my drink and waved goodbye to everyone.

You really are a complete and utter dullard who has never learnt to actually think before they start spouting!!

Last start answering by going backwards as it appears that your amoebic cerebrum can only deal with that. You have yet to produce a FACT - even your assertion that you have a mate is contentious and that he may or may not own a bookies is unsubstantiated. You can believe what you like but it does not bode well for your pathetic arguments that you call for numbers in a debate where no numbers have even been mentioned - or indeed been required. Now I understand that logic is not your strong point whereas bombast and bluster are.

Now as to the process. Never once have I mentioned individual bets. Never once have I mentioned market movements in response to betting flows. Laying-off is merely an industry exercise in risk reduction and has no relation to the event outcome risk (unless a fix is in place). So learn to read and then actually THINK before reacting - you only make yourself even more pathetically stupid otherwise!

The only bit that you did get right was that bookies are market traders. They are selling products (odds) at level and on things that they believe punters will be interested. Get that wrong and they have no sales and hence no profit - end of story. Therefore they have to truly understand the buying behaviour of their customers as a pre-requisite to setting the odds at which they will open the book. After that they monitor the buying activity of the punter and move the odds accordingly. The only unique thing about a bookie is that his product (the odds) is a one-off whereas other market traders have repeat products.

Now if you are indeed a Senior Manager/Director may I send Christmas Greetings to your staff along with my sincere condolences for having to work with such a closed mind.
