You could be right, in a roundabout way.

 

What is wrong with using the term 'multi-cultural motoring? As London is highly multi-cultural, there is a larger percentage than usual of varied cultures, and consequently differing driving cultures.

Have you ever driven in somewhere like Corfu, where you take your life in your hands every time you get behind the wheel, especially on a night when the locals drive straight at you, in the middle of the road in a vain attempt to avoid pot holes, and then swerve to their side at the last second to avoid a collision?

That's normal to them, that's there culture, that's factual, so where's the racism in that?

 

What you're forgetting is that any mention of anyone being foreign is racist.

That's part of British culture now; everyone should be offended if you mention their background, ethnicity or colour and only the worst kind of person would do that. FACT.

I guess that posters like Craig see us all as one worldwide culture, all producing exactly the same behaviour. It truly is a sad situation when the confused read multi-cultural as being in any way racist, baffling in fact.

I "took offence" (that's a poor phrase really because I'm just your average white bloke, anyway...) to Agro's comment because:

A. It was a deliberate attempt to stir up a debate like this.

B. Agro has previous, it was said in a context (as many of his posts on this subject are) that was meant to infer that London is **** because of it's high population of immigrants.

C. In any case, "multiculturalism" was irrelevant to the topic.

I wish we lived in your ideal world where race is just another characteristic, but we don't. Comments like that, that are deliberately trying to stir up racial tension, aren't helpful. Agro knew what he was doing, and personally I'd like to see him banned for 24 hours or something as a warning but as you and DMD hold similar views I won't hold my breath.

I agree that people can be overly PC and overly sensitive and that Craig more often than not comes across as a whiny twat, but Agro's post certainly wasn't intended in the way look_back_in_amber suggested.

TBH the racist thing is nothing but a side issue. The main point is DMD's ever-increasing powers of censorship and the apathy people have about it until it affects them.

 

It would be easier if we had some sort of vote for our moderators or a time limit of service. Clearly at least some people feel that DMD is a bad moderator. I voted Yes because I couldnt think of anyting that DMD had done. Im sure Craig has some sort of legit point in all this or he wouldnt have started the topic. I dont know DMD personally but I havent thought he was a bad dude. I have lots of people blocked on here for things like racism and the fact he isnt blocked made me think that he hadnt done anything. I remember when OLM was a mod and there were people who didnt like him. I always thought he was good. All of this could be avoided if we had some vote for someone as opposed to a vote against someone. The latter allways turn into an argument while the former by its nature should have less of an issue involved.

You've made an allegation, but squeal about getting into a discussion about it. This thread alone shows your claim is bollocks.

I've said several times now, the main mods can see every action we make. They would act if I was doing what you claim.

It's also impossible for us to edit a post without it showing in the post that we'd edited it. So it'd still be there for all to see, as this one now should at the bottom.

 

TWF - your last paragraph about my ideal world where race is just another characteristic. I really think that is the case. People in Britain are determined to believe that we're all full of hate for people who are different, particularly in football for some reason but it's really not the case. The rest of the world don't have this attitude, it's just a weird British thing.

I just can't see the point of blocking, it is easier to skim but get a flavour for the thread. If you combine blocking with the insistence of taking argument to PM (which is a mod tool on here), then I do wonder how must of a true board is available.

 

It's far from an insistence, as this thread shows. It's a suggestion so that the issues can be addressed without the board getting cluttered with threads like these.

I'd agree with the ignore bit though. If there's an issue to be addressed, it's better dealt with rather than pushed under the carpet.
