No attempt to do so on my part. I was just stating the facts.

Please tell me where my statement is incorrect and I will gladly withdraw my comments. How, in your opinion was he 'a great man'? I'm sure you'll be able to educate me.

In fact, there ought to be a thread dedicated to the many that were murdered on his say so. Surely that would be better.

Leave it Shefford, this has already gone badly wrong once before.

I'll be deleting these posts shortly.

Roller, with respect, it is not your role to censor posts. I have made no statements that are untruthful. I merely wanted to make clear that Mandela is NOT the Saint that our press would have us believe. I find all this false adulation sickening and can only suggest that before we leap on the Mandela is dead bandwagon, we educate ourselves as to what he did as the leader of a terrorist organisation.

Shefford, all your questions will be answered by looking at the other Mandela thread that was closed last night.

No but many would regard this as a wind up considering what has happened on a previous post.

It is absolutely not a wind up. If that were the case I would be making things up to suit my argument. What I have stated is fact. Mandela was responsible for many, many deaths. Whether or not you like the facts is neither here nor there, they stand as testament to Mandelas murderous ways.

So, you can't educate me. Well thanks for the contribution. I think I'll rely on my own education. Ta.

Like him or loath him this is a thread to pay respects to a dead man. Open a new thread if you want to start this argument again.

Believe me, I'm not looking to argue with anybody, but I will not follow the sheep and believe all the crap we are fed. I much prefer to educate myself as to the facts and then formulate my own opinion. The irony is is that Mandela is seen by some to be a 'freedom fighter' and here I am trying to voice my thoughts and being told I shouldn't. One of freedoms that Mandela allegedly fought for! Hilarious!

It don't know if I'm allowed say this or not because of people constantly complaining to the Mods but is it any wonder a virulent homophobe also just happens to despise Nelson Mandela? It takes a certain type of person to be consistent on the far right of practically every issue I would say.

BTW, its gotten to the stage that one is afraid to post anything even remotely contentious such is the level of hysterics a few posters engage in. I don't know but I'm from an era where you just take it on the chin and get on with it without throwing your rattler out of the pram.

I pity Roller and Nines, I really do.

That's me, I'm off for a long while before someone cries foul again and gets me banned for good.

Mandela admitted quite honestly that when he went to prison and in those first few years inside he was an angry, bitter young man who thought violence was the only way forward to free his people. It was only after spending time in captivity that he learnt to change his views, renounce violence and openly try and embrace the multicultural society that SA has become. He spent years learning Afrikaans and sought to contact and befriend his once bitter enemies.
Surely that makes him a much better man than many of us could ever be. RIP

Shefford...Don't know if yopu saw it but on Sky a few months ago there was a programme called 'South Africa Rising' (I think on the History channel).
I'm not saying it will change your opinions BUT it might give you a few more avenues of thought...It did me.
