Wow, not often I write a thread about an opposition team after a game, but Everton really did impress me with their performance. Some quality players in their side, and they have three potential world beaters in Barkey,Lukaku and Deulofeu, but problem for them is that the last two are highly unlikely to be at Everton next season. James Mccarthy and Gareth Barry give them a real sold platform in midfield and their defence is pretty good as well. Roberto Martinez for me is a brilliant young manager and I have always rated him, and the speed in which his implanted his methods into Everton has been remarkable. They already play like a Martinez team and he really is destined for the top. For me, he is a manager who can replace Wenger in the long term. Anyway, huge credit to Everton, probably the best team we have played this season.
Going to be difficult for them to replace the loan players. I would love it if they managed to get top 4 this season, just as long as it's not us they displace
That's the problem for them. I suspect they can buy Barry from City, but no chance of Chelsea or Barca selling either Lukaku or Deulofeu.
Nothing about Liverpool's defence or midfield impresses me on paper but at the moment they keep winning. Wonder how long they have to keep it up before people considier them for the title..
Farcical team with their best players not being theirs. That being said, it would make it even more comical if they ousted United, Spurs and Liverpool from the top 4 just for that reason!
We will certainly be tested this month against Spurs, City and Chelsea all away. Midfield is definitely a weak area. We have good centre backs but we haven't stuck to one partnership. Our fullbacks aren't that good. If we don't strengthen those areas in Jan then we will drop off. Everton have impressed me so much. I thought Martinez was a good manager. But it was so hard to judge him at Wigan. Wasn't sure how he would do at a bigger club. He hasn't gone to one of the biggest teams in the league but he certainly has them playing like they are.
But they had their loanees to make them that good. It's like saying arsenal would be where they are without Ozil, Giroud and Ramsey. Yes we've got other good players like Everton do, but we'd be back down the table like we were the last few years.
There were times when his wigan played like a top team, they just couldn't get any kind of consistency
I'd be happy with that. I wouldn't take it now though, as I hope we could at least win one. But deffo 3 draws over a win and 2 losses.
Martinez must be epic on the training ground to get this Everton team to play like this, after only a few months in charge is a sign of a potentially great manager. Also, let's not forget that he was the man that started the football revolution at Swansea.
Kind words & I'd be lying if I said I wasn't proud to read opposition fans talking about us in such glowing terms I thought our first half performance today was sublime at times, given the quality of the opposition it was probably our best 45 mins of the season
I think we were lucky to come away with a point. Just got home from the game, what annoyed me with our performance was how we needlessly gave the ball away, looking for a hollywood pass, when a simple pass would suffice. A lot of big players went missing today, which is why I doubt we will win the league this term. It was so frustrating to watch at times, credit to Everton, they made us look ordinary at times.
I was kind of writing Everton off at first this season. Fellaini and Moeys off to Utd and it looked like it might not be ag reat season for them. Some clever loan signings and one Martinez later and they are quality to watch and playing some of the best football in the league. I hope they get top 4 ahead of Utd, Spurs etc..
I heard some of our fans touting him as a future successor to Wenger when he was at Wigan, seems he's popular. Would be a decent fallback option should Klopp never join us.
Agreed with the OP. Everton were outstanding on Sunday, I've not seen many sides outplay us at home especially when we're on good form. I thought Martinez did his homework and got his tactics spot on. Not only did he stop us playing but he also managed to out pass us. He is definitely one of the best young managers out there. I hope Everton get one of the top 4 spots and go on to succeed under Martinez.
