    Swansea City

    v.

    Hull City

    Monday 9th December 2013 - 8pm

    Liberty Stadium

Well, we can’t let The Jack Army.net get one over us by having a Hull match thread and us not, so I’m putting this up in case no-one else is doing one.

I’ll not turn this into a stats-fest so here’s some random thoughts on Hull City:

I was expecting them to do really badly in the Premier League but they have done remarkably well so far with 17 points from 14 games and only one place below ourselves. They are currently the best placed of the three promoted sides and have achieved that by good results at home and poor results away (record W1 D0 L6). Having said that they’ve had a horrendous away fixture list so far playing Arsenal, Southampton, Tottenham, Everton, Newcastle, Man City & Chelsea!!

I imagine for most die-hard older Swans fans the 4-2 victory over Hull to keep Swansea in the league in May 2003 will be the strongest connection with the opposition.

In more recent times, I remember the 1-1 draw at the Liberty in April 2011 as we were on the march to the Championship play-offs. Hull were on a remarkable run of 15 away games without defeat at the time. When Mark Gower scored a superb opener from outside the box it looked like their run would come to an end but they equalised shortly afterwards. No idea how much longer their run went on for after that - perhaps a Hull fan can enlighten us?

Brendan’s first competitive game in charge of Swansea was away at Hull that season (opening day) when we lost 2-0.

Hull played at Boothferry Park (anyone go there?) until they moved to the shiny new KC stadium in 2002.

A superficial look at their squad:

    Figueroa has come from Wigan.
I think Alex Bruce is Steve Bruce’s son (don’t like these father/son things at the same club - must be really hard for them).
Huddlestone’s a tidy player from Spurs.
Jake Livermore & Danny Graham are on loan from Spurs and Sunderland.
Did George Boyd play for Peterborough?

Possible line-ups: hard to predict what Laudrup will do with St Gallen coming up on Thursday but 4-6-0 again given we don’t have a fit striker? :

    Vorm

    Tiendalli Chico Williams Davies

    Britton De Guzman

    Dyer Shelvey Pozuelo Routledge

    -------------------------------

    Graham Sagbo

    Meyler Huddlestone Livermore Elmohamady

    Brady Bruce Figeroa Chester

    McGregor

Prediction - anything other than a Swans win will be a disappointment, so without getting carried away I’m going for Swansea 2 Hull 0.

And finally something from Dilligaf on the 'other place':

"5. Hull City is the only team in the Football League which hasn't got a single letter that you can colour in !!!". Haha.

Nice one Aswan but shouldn't you change that to "Hull Tigers" or we'll get a cease and desist order put on the thread

Looking forward to see the way we line up. We really should win this one.

Dilli never gets anything right! 'Hull Tigers', he can colour in the 'g' and the 'e', simple minds aye!..................<laugh>

Well done aswan, some nice facts there and well presented in chronological order, I wouldn't expect anything less of you, top man. I'm going for 2-1 win to the Swans, though if Michu is fit then I'll go for 3-0 to us!...............<cheers>

If we play like we did against Newcastle it should be another three points. Going for a 2-0 victory and only a point behind Man Utd <yikes>

Trouble is we've got a history of raising our game against the top teams then ****ing up against lesser opposition - no disrespect to Hull but they're certainly that.

More of the same please! As has been said, if we play like we did the other night we'll win this comfortably. I see Hull doing what they usually do - starting well then fading.

3-0 Swans. Good thread AD. <ok>

I think we can carry on from the Toon game. Steve Bruce will have them well organised and they will be difficult to break down but 2-0 to the Swans.

    Bit sad that. :/

Almost as bad as those clacker hand things at Fulham that everyone seemed to have. Bloody annoying.

A game we are very capable of winning and should win but we have little or no consistency up to now so i hope we have turned the corner on this and get back to back wins, I know there are no easy games in the premiership but the next few games are very winnable and i will be disappointed if we don't take points off all of them..

Rumour is that Michu may be back. More reasons to be cheerful or would you only play him from the bench if needed?

That would be a cracking result for Hull but poor for us. No disrepects to the Tigers but only Sunderland have a worse away record. We have to win this.

I miss-read it, but like my version better, it being the Swans and all. I read it as quacking in your boots. <laugh>

Hull at home is one of those games every self-respecting mid table side should win. They had a good win against Liverpool but have otherwise looked nothing special. If we go into the game with an attacking attitude and the same kind of application that we showed against Newcastle then we should take the points.

An excellent match thread, aswan. However, i am afraid most of your peers have let you down. Do they not see the privilege they have from having the "City of culture" visit the Liberty ?
