Although the double whammy of the Battle of Culloden and the Highland Clearances pretty much tried to kill the language off, with the Scottish Parliament have been pushing Scots Gaelic for the last ten years so you get bilingual signs in the Highlands, BBC Alba is a Scots Gaelic station, and it's an option in some secondary schools.

Besides, the Welsh pretend they speak a foreign language too!

You're more likely to hear Polish spoken in the Highlands then Gaelic, although if you tune into MFR on Sunday night you will hear a cute lady translate the top four chart in Gaelic which is probably understood by 1 percent of the listeners.

Gaelic is more prominent way up north, reaching places like Stornoway, but in the Highlands when I travel through you have more locals clued up on the polish language.

I doubt Scotland will vote for independence as it's being driven by Alex salmond, who loves the attention and being the man to take the Scots away from the English but one thing that riles the Scots up is listening to the English tell them why they need to stay!

Back to the match- my take was it took most of 1st half for the players to get used to where each was playing as such was quite disjointed.
2nd half they just clicked, the counter attacking was like the old days fast & incisive and whoever has a go at JD think about this he was for a change in the right places quite a few times and worked his socks off.He was unlucky to hit the woodwork twice, the other he should have buried but he thought he was offside (no surprises there!).
A much better performance and even allowing for the fact we had Capoue at C/H and Naughton at LB ,much to be optimistic about.
    Bring on the mousers.

Just watched the MOTD coverage of our game and I was unsurprised to see them focus on the Sandro handball and totally omit the Wes Brown half-Nelson on Dawson.
Both were penalties, neither were given.

I didnt think the dawson one was worth a penalty tbh. the sandro moment of madness was a stonewall pen, and looking at it objectively, there's something wrong if the ref doesnt give that. maybe he thought we deserved the win, but at the end of the day that's not his job. obviousy it doesnt bother me in thr least, but that would be my view of it

It doesn't matter to us but everytime a decision goes against us, you would think the ref should be hanged! It's just proof decisions even out and every team gets luck at some point.

Let's be clear this chance will not be missed despite the total bias of the media and Westminster.

The English bias is what riles up the Scots, but at the moment most aren't fully aware of why they should vote other then a English V Scottish debate. I don't think it will happen but the more bias we hear, the more Scots will side with voting independence.

Boss I'll tell you now I am involved in the YES campaign and our polling suggests it will happen, but you will not hear this from the media. You have to go online and find the sites that are giving the true picture. For example http://wingsoverscotland.com/

I wasn't basing my view on the media, but sure the media never paint the full picture, just try and drive people a certain direction.

The people saying yes now, such as polls tend to say yes based on reasons they dismiss when it comes to the real vote and once more people become aware of all the facts, the polls change.

But I'm not against the independence, I'm part of Scotland through work and family but am keeping an open mind until I become aware of all the facts, but thanks for the links <cheers>

the irish general election after ww1 was rigged in favour of sinn fein and was also a protest vote against the war, but nevertheless a huge majority of seats were returned in sinn fein's favour (although less than 50% of votes cast).

when the irish actually voted for independence in the 1930s though, and when everyone realised this wasnt just a bit of a craic but was actually a serious possibility, only 38% of irish voters voted for independence from the UK.

They went ahead and declared independence anyway, but that's not the point.

I think we better end this debate as we didn't take it off topic but we're destroying the match thread Lol and Pnp will be telling us off soon!!

Just one thing about the match, Paulinho impressed me with the way he gets into good positions, he's been impressing me for awhile in that way and if he improves his decision making with chances under pressure then next year I can see him getting around 8-10 league goals.

Having only seen the game on MOTD I don't have any objective views of the game itself. But I'm pleased to see Spurs have bounced back from the Man City result. I view the Spurs V Mau Utd match as 2 points dropped as I think Man Utd are beatable this year but admittedly it was a fair result. Spurs really need to beat Liverpool next weekend and I for one would not be satisfied with a draw.

Should Spurs beat Liverpool, then it's looking much brighter for Spurs and AVB. Still too early to determine AVB's fate, but it's looking good so far.

Glad Holtby and Dawson are "flavour of the week" though, along with Walker, Lennon & Paulinho.

...especially as Welsh people are more likely to say the English version of that greeting, "Merry Christmas" - although if you get the pronunciation correct, you are guaranteed to clear your sinuses.
